Why We Like The Altra Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Boot
Before the sun wakes, we're laced in Altra's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Boot and on the trail. The grooved midsole boosts flexibility, giving us a smooth rolling stride, while Altra's TrailClaw lugs give us solid traction to push off of. As the path turns to singletrack and dew-heavy brush rains on each step, the impervious membrane keeps our feet dry.

I will Buy this Product Again
These hikers make my feet sing. I have been wearing these all winter long through snow and ice. I am now wearing them on wet, back roads, through the woods, and muddy trails and streams. No need to jump puddles. The shoes were uncomfortable around my ankles at first, but that went away after a few miles. My only hope is that more traditional hiking boot colors will be offered in the future. Life literally would not be the same for me without these Altra's because of my bunions and arthritic feet. Thank you Altra!

Love them - the best
Love these shoes and love altras - all other hiking boots give me blisters and aches....these are perfect for me. Light weight, durable and the best souls. :))

Just what I needed
After a couple QC hiccups with my past two pairs of altras I took a chance on these and I'm very pleased. I take long hikes in marshy areas and needed something comfy, supportive and waterproof and these are it.

Very dissapointed
I am a size 13 men's foot size. Depending on the shoe, I can wear a Medium width or EE. I wanted a highly cushioned zero-drop, natural-fit hiking shoe. What I received had three major faults. First, despite the signature fit with extra room in the toe box, the shoe was very narrow. Narrower than Keen or Hoka Medium width. Second, the top of the shoe does not wrap far enough around the ankle, so pressure is put on the side of the calf. I don't have super wide calves. This shoe is completely misdesigned. Third, the heels seemed too soft compared to the middle and the front of the shoe. I took for granted that most shoes are farther along in their design iteration. Altra, you lost me. This is an expensive product that has not been thoroughly thought out.

Blister Factory
I've been wearing Altra shoes for hiking for many years, and these are definitely not up to what I am used to. They are OK for short hikes, but wear them for anything longer than 15 miles and you are guaranteed to get blisters. If you are on a multi day hike you might lose a few toenails. The shoe is too narrow, in particular on the outside of the foot, and the shell is pretty rigid causing a lot of pressure on the toes and leading to blisters developing quickly.

Almost amazing
I really liked the way this boot felt when I first put it on. The cushion, the toe box size, it all seemed perfect. Howbwer im finding a few massive flaws that need attention for the updated next version - the tongue attachment to the shoe is a big problem. Spiky, itchy, pointy bits of something stab through my sock regularly. Additionally, when tightened down for hiking, the outside angle pieces really bite into my ankle area causing pressure and pain. These boots are incapable of hikes and hard use due to these massive design flaws. However if you can play around with the tongue, re-tie the laces a few times and not overtighten the top, they work for around town use. If I had not gotten them for about half off on a closeout sale I'd be in altras mailbox every day until they were swapped out. As it is I bought a closeout item and I'll have to deal with it. I truly think this could be the best boot they make if they can just fix the tongue attachment and ankle areas.

Want to love them, but...
Tried these on at a local shop when I originally went in to try on a pair of Danners. The cushioning was so comfortable, I ended up buying the Altras instead. However, I wish I would have read some reviews first. After wearing them on their maiden hike, I quickly realized that the tongue bit into my ankles so badly that they were extremely uncomfortable. This seems to be a common issue for a lot of reviewers. Also not sure I love the toe box shape for rocky climbs as they are rounded and don't give me as much support on the posterior side of the toe grip. Wanted to like these, but the ankle issue is a big problem.

Almost really good
As others have mentioned, the part where the tongue connects to the rest of the boot painfully digs into your ankle. Unfortunately I can't even wear them. They're a little tight across the top of my toes as well. Everything else is good though, so they just need to fix those 2 things

Altra is the best comfort footwear on the planet
I work in healthcare and Altra footwear is all I wear. Wide footbed is perfect for long days in hospital. Now I really need the tan high top. I'm a believer!
