Why We Like The Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 Hiking Boot

The Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 is the mid-cut, water-resistant version of Altra's most popular trail running shoe. Made for soggy and snowy trails, the mid keeps out muck, snow, sticks, and pebbles without using a gaiter while a water-resistant bootie protects us against rain and ice melt as it breathes steamy moisture vapor away from our sweaty feet. That added protection makes a difference on our wet weather hikes and winter trail runs while letting us enjoy Altra's balanced cushioning, women-specific fit, and wide, Footshape toe boxes that leave extra room for our feet to swell and our toes to wiggle.

Liked but rubbed my ankle

These are the first zero drop shoes I've had. I loved the fact that they are zero drop and with arthritis in my feet the extra wide toe area feels great. The issue I have is they rubbed my ankles and the one seemed to have an issue where it was sewn by the tongue. I ordered a pair of the lower shoes in hoping they fit better.

Great shoes for wet and snow conditions

Comfy shoes (feel slightly narrower than what I'm used to with Altra shoes) with good grip in snow. Truly waterproof. However my feet get hot and sweaty when wearing them for an extended time.

I regret this purchase

This is my third pair of Altras and it's a fail. They're much smaller than my previous lone peaks. The toe box pinches and I have bruised my toenails. Size up.

Love these boots

I am on my fourth pair of these. When I switched from traditional hiker boots my speed increased 1/2 mile an hour almost overnight. The zero drop dramatically improved my metatarsal pain. And I was able to do all this without switching to a trail runner, i love a boot for the support and keeping my foot in place without pressure on the top of my foot. I generally get 300-350 miles on a pair of these before The support goes and my feet start to ache. I also love the unreasonalbe for hiking boots pale blue. I have already bought 4 pairs for my next thru hike.

Love these, but total fail on being "All Weather"

I adore my regular Lone Peaks, and got this All Wthr version for the Wonderland Trail around. Mt. Rainier. Super-comfortable, but absolutely NOT waterproof whatsoever. I've also had a pair of the Lone Peak All Wthr shoe fail at being waterproof. While the style and fit is amazing, I do not recommend anything that Altra says is All Wthr if you depend on it being waterproof.

Too delicate for the trail?

I have worn several pairs of low-rise Altras for hiking over the years, but these are my first boots. After only a few times wearing them on sidewalks and relatively well-groomed trails, I notice tears in the uppers on both left and right shoes. My other Altras have never shown this wear, even after many times hiking on the same trails. I'm so disappointed! I expected better durability from these Altra boots.

On my second pair

No shoes are truly "waterproof" unless you are wearing fishing gators! So I bought these knowing that. So to critique these Altras I would say they perform well. Material is a little stiffer but allows for quick dry & ventilation. I wear my pair every day in fall muddy forest trail running and now an average of 14 miles in standard Hok ski bindings daily. I wear alpaca or wool sock for wicking comfort. Altras dry out nicely next to wood stove with newspaper in them nightly when throughly wet. I purchase a new pair every season

Great shoe, not for me

I walked 3-4 miles per day for 6 consecutive days and ended up in the ER with extremely painful spasms in my low back and glute. If you are older and accustomed to a traditional shoe with a raised heel profile, proceed with caution. The shoes have a great toe box and feel comfortable-but zero drop didn't work for me.

Cold weather only

Had to return this boot because it's definitely not all-weather - cold weather only. I've never worn a boot that made my feet sweat so bad my wool socks turned out WET. (And that was only a 1.5 mile hike!) I know it's possible to make breathable waterproof shoes, but these are not that. Otherwise, they're very comfortable on the trails, rocks and inclines and all.
