Disappointed
Started the AT and in less than 100 miles the left toe started peeling back. 50 more miles, right shoe doing the same! both shoes are being held together with shoe goo. Expected them to last longer.

Great but not great
The reason I gave this shoe a three star review is because the cons outweigh the pros. I have purchased many of the Olympus before an overall they have been great. The pros: very comfortable, great grip on the soul and very durable. The cons: the shoelaces do not stay tied. The heel tends to slip out of the back of the shoe if not tied tightly enough. Also, the tongue of the shoe tends to slip. The laces are very hard to tighten from the toe of the shoe. Overall the comfort and the grip are worth it, if you are willing to put up with the cons I've listed.

Great shoe
I recently had a total knee replacement. Used to be a hoka lover but after knee surgery I really felt like I needed something more "balanced" feeling. These shoes are perfect. 4 months out and back to hiking because of how solid yet cushy they feel.

Olympus 5.0
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 7
I have 90 miles on them and they are holding tough. This is my first set of 5.0, But, started in the 2.5 edition years ago. I have neuropathy and Olympus are my go to running shoes. These seem to be smaller than my previous editions. And I'm not a fan of the rubber tongue, but I like the split in the tongue to keep the rubs down.

Like these but need in a wide to love them!
Wide widths are not really too available in Altra shoes. My first pair was the Paradign 7 and they're very comfortable but the blue is the only wide choice. I found these black & purple Olympus 5's and thought they really cute, but before ordering, I contacted customer service to see how the "original" (widest without being called wide) would feel compared to the wide width, and was assured they would be the same. I ordered, and could tell immediately by looking at them that they were much narrower. I sent them back, ordered up 1/2 size and removed the insole, and they feel pretty good. Would really love more wide widths with more color options.

Giving up on Altra
I made the mistake of buying these in December and placing them in my closet without trying them on. Now that I pulled them out to wear they are too small. now I'm stuck with these expensive shoes that hurt my toes. I just looked at the other shoe colors and sizes and it seems that the size I need are out of stock which is a red flag. I'm about to give up on this brand altogether and go back to Hokas.

Altra changed "original" toe box to much more narrow!?!?
I liked my Olympus 5 (original toe box) so much that wanted to buy extra pair in case Altra moves to next version. Bought a pair - the toe box is about 1/3" more narrow than identical shoe bought about 1.5 years ago. Returned but bought one more hoping it was a mixeup. No luck, it looks like now "original" is much more narrow.

Bring back the 4s!
I read the comments that this model sucks compared to the 4. I couldn't find a 4 in my size online for love or money. I called altra and asked if they had 4s. They said, try the 5s! They were built using customer feedback, they said. You can return even after wearing. So I tried the 5s, in my regular size and one size up. And they aren't worth the return shipping I'm going to have to pay to return them. The tongue cuts deep into my ankle. The toe box feels much narrower than the 4s. Altra, at a certain point, you've got to stop "improving" on a good thing. Cuz the 5 sure ain't an improvement. Please bring back the 4s.

I absolutely HATE these shoes!!! Bring back the 4s!!!!
I cannot understand why Altra changed the Olympus 4 to these utterly horrible Olympus 5s. The Olympus 4 was awesome...I hiked the JMT and summited My.Whitney in them...not a single blister, no pain, no rubbing. Sadly, I couldn't get them anymore when I needed a new pair. The 5s run small, the heel doesn't fit right, the toe box fits oddly...they're so uncomfortable and painful that I can't even use them to mow the lawn. BRING BACK THE OLYMPUS 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run small, feel stiff
I had the Altra Olympus 4 before this shoe, and those were excellent. Great fit, super supportive and soft at the same time. Something about this version is different though. It feels stiffer, like the impact from the ground hits harder, even when on trail terrain. My toes seem to hit the forefront on foot strike, which was not an issue with the 4. And the toe box feels a little tighter on the 5, as my bunion gets a bit irritated after a run. I did love the brown/red color combo though, they look great. I seem to be using them more for walking than running though.
