Why We Like The Altra Vanish Tempo Running Shoe
Snappy, supportive, and well cushioned, the Vanish Tempo Running Shoe is a slight departure from Altra's Vanish Carbon—with very pleasant results. With a slightly slimmer fit provides a stable rear hold while still delivering Altra's classic generously sized toe box for a natural splay. An incredibly energetic ride thanks to EGO Pro foam makes this one of our new favorites for daily training.

Love the shoe, lacking durability
I recently transitioned to the Altra line after wearing Hoka and Brooks previously. Absolutely love the Vanish Tempo and just bought my second pair. I've used these as daily trainers and race day shoes without complain, until I started building up miles on them. At only 200 miles the outsoles are disappearing and the foam bottom showing through. Everything up to this point has been fantastic, so I bought another pair and stretching this first pair until my feet fall through the bottom. Just wish they lasted longer.

Best running shoe I've ever worn
I've been running for 15 years. I am about 230 lbs and finding the right balance between cushion and responsiveness in a shoe has been a challenge. Not anymore. These shoes provide a smooth ride with tons of performance--all with ample space in the toebox for toes to splay. I was nervous at first because I also own the Lone Peak 7s and thought they were way too narrow, despite being a wider footshape than these, but I find the Vanish Tempos to be much wider and more comfortable in the toe box, despite the "narrow" footshape. I will absolutely buy these again.

Perfect fit and joyfull ride
Please Altra, keep this model in production. Simply the most comfortable for long run at fast pace. I don't understand why this model is not sold everywhere in Canada and why it's not more popular amongs Altra users. Fast feeling combined with perfect shoe balance - the ride is really joyful and it performed so well. Level of cushioning is perfect for high mileage training while providing excellent ride sensation.

I will buy these again!
I just bought my first pair a month ago and love them. I have been looking for something to replace the Torin since they have changed them. I love my Vanish Tempos for trading and racing.

Almost a 5s tar rating
I am on my 15th or so pair of Altra. My first pair at this new fit. I'm very pleased so far on a modest 10k first run. Marathon on 10th. I wish I pleased up just to get that toe a bit more space.

Race Day Ready!
The shoe is incredibly. One of the best speed shoes I've worn. I've since purchased the Vanish Carbon to have for race day, based on my experience with this shoe. It does fit just a bit small vs other Altra shoes. I would recommend going up high size if close in others , e.g. Torin, LPs, etc.

Solid shoe, could use some improvements
I hadn't run in Altras before, but I was recommended them with my flat + narrow feet. I'm training for a marathon and I've loved how bouncy and energetic they feel. Only complaint is the durability of the outsole (especially for the price point). It began to wear away very quickly. Now, it's all gone on the toes. I just bought another pair to run in in the marathon but I'd love to see some improvements made

Bouncy with a sharp tongue
I have the Rivera and the torin and overall I do feel the vanish shoes are similar to the Rivera's. I like the nice bounce of the vanish shoes! I also like how airy and light they feel! Downside is the tongue cutting and rubbing into my left ankle... I have never had this problem in any shoe I've ran with before. My first run with the vanish was a 10 miler and mile 5 was when I noticed a sharp stinging pain above my left ankle. The tongue of the shoe started irritating my skin to the point that it was bleeding mid run! I just brushed it off and dealt with it. I may have to start using ankle high socks just to protect my ankles. Overall though, I do like the shoes because of how bouncy and supportive they feel, but I'm still on the fence with recommending these to a friend.

Good not great
I'm a huge fan of Altra's. I've gone through a number of Escalante Racer's, and other shoes. This year I decided to tackle the marathon so I wanted a higher cushion daily trainer. The Vanish Tempo's seemed to be great. I could use them for training, then consider getting the carbons for race day. My only complaints are the width and the durability. One reason I love Altra is their foot shape, I have wider feet so it is always a challenge to find comfortable shoes. I really wish they made these in the standard shape. I find the slim shape to be workable, but not as comfortable as I would like. The shoes also aren't as durable as I hoped. The soles seem to wear quickly relative to other Altra's, and the glue between the upper and lower failed in the same spot on both shoes after 200-215 miles. Perhaps I'm not using the shoes for what they were designed for. However, it seems like a natural progression to use these for training/racing longer distances and then get the carbon to spice things up a bit. Overall the Vanish Tempo's feel okay, but not great.

Did not perform as expected in marathon
I bought the Vanish Tempo days before running the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon after training injury free almost exclusively in the Rivera 1 and 2. I ran a 4-mile taper and then the Marathon in the Vanish Tempo for a total of 30 miles in 2 days. They let me down in some ways. I felt the need to have more pro cushion and a rocker to keep my legs turning. I wear a size 11 but sized up to 11.5 just like I do with the Rivera. The length fit good by sizing 1/2 size up. Upon first try-on the tongue and top eyelets felt stiff around the front of my ankle, and the shoe was cut too high with me being used to the Rivera lineup. Also, I struggled to get a good lock-down with bunching happening on each of the bottom shoelace eyelets. The upper felt much sloppier than the Rivera 1 and 2 like another reviewer said. My pinky toes felt like they were breaking out of the sides compared to the Rivera that has the same slim fit. In the marathon the left shoe loosened up almost immediately and I ran with it feeling sloppy for 13 miles and then pulled over to tighten them down again. The Ego Pro cushioning felt good until mile 13 and then it didn't feel any different than the Rivera. In retrospect I would have run in the Rivera 2 which I just love for comfort and running economy. I rolled over the side once during the marathon due to not being used to the higher stack height. The Vanish Tempo was not the shoe for me, and I returned them in favor of the Rivera lineup. With some fine tuning or even just using a Rivera upper on the Ego Pro platform, you would have a winner for me.
