Why We Built The Backcountry Hybrid Grid Fleece 3/4 Bottom
We designed the Hybrid Grid Fleece 3/4 Bottom to help us stay out in the backcountry as long as possible when mid-winter conditions provide a bounty of fresh snow. The stretchy fabric moves with us on the skintrack, and the grid fleece knees and backing offer lightweight insulation for dawn patrol tours that begin with temperatures reading uncomfortably close to zero. Thanks to the motion-friendly design and toasty feel, this bottom is also among our go-to choices when lapping our favorite chair on stormy resort days.

Excellent base layer
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

I hate base layer pant that go down into my ski boots. They tend to bunch up especially when skinning up a track. These are perfect. No more cutting off my base layers at the calf. Snug fit stays in place. Pretty warm too!

New favorite base layer

I'm bought a few other 3/4 cut base layers for skiing and this was my favorite by far. 3/4 length is absolutely the way to go for skiing to avoid too much fabric around your boot! This felt tailored, warm where I needed it, and breathable where I needed it. A great buy from the Backcountry line!

Great baselayer for skiing and fishing!

I have never been a fan of wearing tights or sweats which bunch up around the ankle and leg when stuffing them into ski boots or waders/wading boots. With the 3/4 length on these baselayers, that is not longer an issue! These sit perfectly at the top of my ski boot so I don't have to worry about circulation getting cut off around my ankle. As another reviewer said, they are a little baggy in the crotch area, but that didn't take away from their performance any in my opinion. I normally wear a 34-36x32 size pants. I actually liked it as it gives a more discreet look when wearing them around the ski house on trips with friends. #BackcountryGearhead

If you are on the fence buy smaller size
- Size Bought:
- Large

I am 6’1” 190lbs with 34-35 in. waist and the large was baggy mostly in the thigh and crotch area. Appears to be a great product and I am bummed there aren’t any mediums to order.

I usually use Smartwool for colder days with my Cardiac Bib but run a bit cold. Those passed the cold test and I can say they perform better in my opinion. Also, the 3/4 length is better than the usual length, although I think they could be a little bit shorter like the Spruces Merino

The fit is really nice. perfect layer if you wear insulated bottoms. I have not had a chance to try these solo under a shell yet. Could always use more fill wieght in the seat.

Great fit, great warmth

I like wearing 3/4 length when skiing, to keep bunches out of my ski boots. These are a little heavier than capilene; almost like a yoga-pant material. Plenty warm for skiing; I wear them with just a gore ski pant when it's in the upper 20s/30s, or with a pair of pants over them when colder. Great flexibility and fit. I'm 6' and 160", 30x33 pants, and the S fits me well. Snug, but secure. I like them.

Not sure if the other reviewer somehow got a bum pair for some reason (not sure how) but mine arrived exactly as advertised (gird in the knees and seat - see pics). These are now my go to's when it's cold outside. I've now used them when it's -4 (-25 with the wind chill) and they keep me warmer than my Smartwool 150s. Comfy fit at a super reasonable price; especially with the winter sales!

Decent baselayer, inaccurate description

I was looking for a pair of baselayer bottoms that would perform like my Patagonia R1 grid fleece full-length tights, but in a boot top cut. The description states these are grid fleece in the knees and seat, with "stretchy fabric" elsewhere. In fact, they are normal (non-grid) stretch fleece in the knees and seat, with a grid-like stretch fleece in other areas. These appear well made, they fit well, and are warm, so I will likely keep them. But I'm disappointed that the product is not as described.
