Big Air Pilot Package

There's a quick moment, right when your climber starts a gigantic whip, when you wish you were on the other end of the rope instead of belaying, but at least you'll get some extra help from Black Diamond's Big Air Pilot Package. This assisted braking device forgoes the use of any moving components to add friction to the climbing rope; instead, the ATC Pilot pinches the rope whenever it tugs too hard on the climber's side, ensuring naturally reliable friction every time. This package includes Black Diamond's RockLock Screwgate Locking Carabiner that complements the ATC Pilot perfectly, and there's a small clip at the bottom for your harness to prevent any cross-loading.

Great upgrade

Over the past 10 years I’ve stopped climbing and put away my figure 8, ATC and reverso. Coming back onto the scene I still didn’t want to go with the Grigri but the only other option was the big air pilot. So far it’s been smoother on the descent and just as quick pulling in rope. Thanks BD!

Beautiful Simplicity

Such a simple, yet well thought out design. Easy to grip, effective rope path for braking and playing out slack, no sharp angles, short learning curve. This is how a belay device should be.

Big Air Pilot Belay Device Package

It works as it should. Better stoping than my old belay. Feel safer to. New requirement in my indoor climbing place.

Love it

The pilot is the best belay device. It’s my favorite. My only complaint is that I was expecting the carabiner to be black like the picture but it’s actually silver with an orange screw gate

Black Diamond has done it

Black Diamond has done it again. Great, simple design that makes belaying a little more fool-proof.

Like the auto catch feature

Like the auto catch feature for the rope. When belaying the climber down, not quite as easy to fine tune speed coming down. Belay can be a bit jerky when lowering climber.
