Why We Like The Black Diamond Shadow Climbing Shoe
With its sharp asymmetry and deep downturn, the Shadow Climbing Shoe is undoubtedly the most aggressive option in Black Diamond's exciting lineup of footwear for the vertical world. Instead of vertical, however, the Shadow shines on overhung boulders and routes. The NeoFriction Fuse rubber sole has a sensitive, sticky nature so we can feel micro-edges on our toe, and instead of making the sole out of several cut strips of rubber, Black Diamond molded the rubber directly onto the upper to reduce peeling and increase longevity. Equally unique, the upper features a soft, breathable knit microfibers with rubber strips for effective toe-hooking.

Needs research
I’m not sure who did the sizing on this Climbing shoe but it’s absolutely so far off I just don’t get it. I’ve been Climbing for 35 years and I’ve gone through dozens of shoes in that time. I’ve never worn larger than a 9 1/2 or 10 Climbing shoe I ordered this shoe three different times in the ended up ordering a 12.5. how can it be off so much. The tow box is way too small and pinches your toes over as well as the space above the foot has way too much room I’ve climbed in the shoe for the last 2-3 weeks, hoping it would somehow start to work and it just doesn’t . might want to take a little more time and researching and development in this shoe. And I’m a black diamond fan fan through and through

Size not even close
I have probably 5- 6different Climbing shoes. All of them are size 10 this was my newest addition to my shoes after ordering a 10 1/2 that didn’t fit I ordered an 11 1/2 and it was super tight as well. Not even close. Not sure who did the sizing on these but they’re way off I have a size 12! Coming to me But they’re way off.

Love It!
Feel on indoor and outdoor is great. There's no thoughts of "i hope my foot holds" when using these. I wear a street 11 and went with a 10.5 and its perfectly uncomfortable.

SIZE
The structure of the shoe is great; very aggressive design. However, there is no return permitted and the shoe is not true to size.

decent shoe
nice soft and precise shoe, great for bouldering. The fit could be better. there is a nice pocket for the knuckle of your big toe, but overall the show is very low volume. expect to size up a minimum of a half size over your street shoe.

Surprised
My first impression was that it was more of a basic shoe; after bouldering and route climbing in them for a few weeks, they toe-in and hold on small edges very well. I’ve done a few heel hooks on route that held on smaller edges that stuck. Also, the shape of the shoe started to evolve with my foot shape. Overall, happy about the purchase and have a few ideas for improvements.

Size is a little tricky
These look awesome: soft and aggressive. Unfortunately the sizing runs really small. I wear 9-9.5 street shoe and can’t get my feet in the size 9 shoe :(

They’re great but confusing
These shoes fit great, I love them they are super grippy. For some reason my foot doesn’t sweat in these things haha props to BD for that one. I’ve only been climbing in them for about 2 sessions so I can’t speak long term so much. Before the shadows I wore Scarpa Veloces, I wore a size 42.5/9.5 and they fit great. I wanted something more aggressive so decided to give these a go, spoke to black diamond customer service before ordering to get to the bottom of this mega off sizing black diamond seems to have. Just to be safe I ordered a 9.5,10,10.5,11,11.5 and quickly figured out that there fit TIGHT. I wear a size 10 for street shoes and I ended up settling with the 10.5 so not THAT off with the sizing but you might wanna order a few and return the ones that don’t fit. When I first tried the 10.5 I thought I was gonna crush my toes they were really painful but decided to have a sesh with them; they were really bad for the first hour but then got slowly better, the toe pain was completely gone by the next day I went to the gym. Overall I was very impressed by the comfort and the grip of these shoes. So bottom line is this, try them on in multiple sizes and if they hurt your feet, they’re gonna get comfy trust me. And the sizing is off but not that off, I fit comfortably in a 10.5 in the momentum, zone, and the shadows. Cheers
