    Smells rancid and leaking fat

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I really wish they made this product without the ruff - because it is real fur, it smell quite bad, and recently it's begun leaking animal fat (I've been using the coat for less than a year!). If you touch it, your hands come away sticky and smelling rancid. I would NOT recommend this product.

This coat was purchased as a gift for my Aunt. She works in NYC and has some brutal winter weather she battled on her way to and from work. As it is late in the season she is very much looking forward to putting this coat to good use next winter! Coat is lightweight but very cozy!

The removable coyote fur ruff provides the ultimate protection against cold wind, and coupled with the fleece-lined adjustable hood, is an extremely soft and comfortable way to brave the elements. The storm placket that runs down the front of the parka, protecting a heavy-duty YKK zipper, is secured with military style buttons. The Kensington features two sets of handwarmer pockets, two small snap-secured pockets at the chest and two larger pockets protected by a military button flap at the hip! Also worth mentioning, it has two snap-closed back vents which can be opened if you happen to get too toasty. The inside of the jacket has two shoulder straps for carrying the parka on your back, and a single velcro-closed drop pocket on the left side. There are knit cuffs inside the sleeves so your arms stay warm if your hands get a little cold. This jacket is rated a TEI 3 on Canada Goose's Thermal Experience Index meaning: Fundamental warmth fashioned for everyday use. Feel free to email or call me directly for specified measurements and all other inquiries.

I purchased this jacket for my sister as a birthday gift, and she's just finally gotten around to wearing it. She's worn it in the most frigid temperatures the East Coast has to offer, and thus far the only complaint she has echoes what another reviewer has said - the pockets are shallow. Other than that, the fit is great(S, 5'4 115) and she's very pleased with the cut.

I debated over this jacket for a few weeks. I could not decide between the Kensington and the Trillium. I finally decided on the Kensington as I felt it was much less bulky and slim fitting. I also debated on sizing for a while. At first I purchased the XS. I'am 5'4" and 121lbs. Im very small in the shoulders and chest (34B) so I though the XS was perfect. When I tried it on at home a realized I couldn't fit too much under it and the neck was tight when I zipped it up. I ended up exchanging for the small and like the fit a lot better. My only complaint is that the neck area is still a little small and for those really cold days it would be nice to have something that you can tuck your face in to. But I wore it the other night for a walk with the dogs in 20 degrees and I have to say I was very warm! If you are debating on size with this jacket I would go up a size. If your debating on style I'd say the trillium is really nice also just a little bulkier in the shoulders and not as long as the Kensington. I hope my review can help someone from agonizing over a coat for as long as I did to find the right one!

    Kensington Striking Military Style

The Kensington Slim Fit Parka has a unique flattering style. When I see others wearing the Kensington about town, I notice the quality, luxury and attractive styling. What to love: the quality of the fabric, the details in styling {military buttons, feminine figure flattering cut, quality of the Coyote fur, a hood where form follows function}.
I live in one of the coldest states in the US (North Dakota), which is sometimes colder than parts of Alaska due to the fierce winds and frigid wind chills- -30 without the wind chill.
The Kensington is a lovely coat no doubt, but has areas where it could be improved.
    1. It could be warmer. There is distinct lack of feathers in the arms and lower front of the coat. (I added duck down feathers from a comforter to solve this problem). I purchased the Mystique for the extremely bitter cold - fantastic. The Mystique has the same 625-fill power duck down insulation, but is much much warmer and more stylish than in the pictures. It also has more duck down insulation in the arms and body.
    2. The neck has the same fabric as the wrist and it was chocking me when I zipped up the coat. (I removed the neck band and made one similar to the Mystique - problem solved).
3.The storm placket is open at the bottom letting in the frigid wind and creates a less slim look. The 'Lorette' Hooded Down Parka with Genuine Coyote Fur Trim seems to have addressed this issue. (I extended the placket, problem solved).
I do NOT recommend all the sewing alterations, but I do recommend, the adorable Kensington for the not so frigid temperatures. Therefore, a 4 star recommendation. For just $50 more, the Mystique is the warmer of the two coats. However, the styling of the Kensington is really marvelously chic for about town wear.
I know own the Lorette which seems to be a streamlined version of the Kensington. Very flattering, lighter in weight perhaps due to the chambers for the feathers. It also seems a bit shorter.

    Love this coat!

I bought this coat in slate (green) and I keep getting compliments about it. It's super warm, fits perfectly and of very good quality. It is everything that I thought it would be and has met all of my expectations.

My only complaint is that the upper pockets are too shallow and my hands cannot fit completely inside. Other than that, I know that I've made a extremely wise investment since this winter coat will last for many years.

I'm actually wishing for colder weather so that I can wear (and show off) this coat more often!

I wanted to love this coat..

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I really wanted to love this coat. Especially given the price tag and all the rave reviews. However, it runs really small. I'm 5' 6" and 145 lbs and ordered a medium (that's normally my size). The middle portion of it was snug around my stomach AND (big and!) I couldn't zip the coat up all the way up around my chin. I thought the purpose was to be a wind guard. It was incredibly tight with no stretch around the chin. Maybe this was a defect coat?? So strange. I might try to order a large at some point. I returned it the next day.

I really wish I took pictures. I did appreciate the slim design, the quality of the materials, warmth and hood. But along with the collar/chin issue, the pockets were pretty shallow. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and I didn't feel secure in putting my phone in one of those pockets. Really unfortunate because I really hoped this coat would be IT for my big move to Chicago.

    Glad I purchased

I had been stalking this coat for a long time and finally broke down to order it. I'm very glad I did. It is objectively beautiful in an outdoorsy way. It also has some clever design elements that allows you to adjust the fit so you do not look like you are wearing a sleeping bag, a problem with my much-loved long down coats. Cosmetically it is beautiful, with nice buttons and other quality touches. You can tell the coat is special and I have received many compliments.

Note that the warmth I think will come from the heavy fabric outer shell finish, not necessarily the fill, which seemed light to me given it was 650. I think in the coldest situations (below -10F) you will still need to wear layers or double up with a small puffer. For the price, that may not be great, but given the beauty and other design elements that is ok with me. If you are buying this coat with the goal of owning the warmest coat of your life, you should consider a different model.

    Fabulous Coat!!!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for a family member who shared the following review:

"Fabulous coat. We use this in wet wintry NY weather. It repels water but keeps warm in blizzards, ice storms and cold weather. its pricey but worth the price. Its comparable to the warmest North Face. The coat is really comfortable. Bulky but perfect for a cold winter day, when you want the bulk."

I recently found out about this brand working with them at Sundance and they have won me over. Standing outside in 15 degree weather when its snowing with only a t-shirt and jeans the Canada Goose Expedition Parka kept my 100 pound frame from frost bite. I love the brand so much that I went ahead and purchased the Kensington Parka which is more ideal for Utah weather. The fit is amazing and true to size. FINALLY a parka that comes in XXS!!!

Never too hot and never, ever cold!

    • Height: 5'10"

We gave this to a friend of the family. This is what she had to say about it:

How it compares I got rid of my previous puffy down parka from Patagonia to avoid looking like a granola wearing a grey sleeping bag, (because that’s exactly how the puffy long parka made me look and feel) and it wasn’t as water resistant as I needed it to be living in the snowy mountains. I overheated quickly in the puffy down Patagonia but this Kensington parka is every bit as techie, waterproof, temperature regulating, and aesthetically flattering as anyone could dream it would be. It may seem silly, but when you need to take off your parka, it’s heavy to carry in your arms, so the built-in shoulder suspenders will pleasantly surprise you. Canada Goose for the win.

Not so great about it I’m 5’10” and usually wear a women’s small but this new tailored fit is too snug, so size up! I usually keep my hands in the lower pockets because the upper pockets on the Kensington aren’t big enough to fit my hands, like the Trillium are. When I zip the coat up all the way to my neck it’s quite snug around my throat and when I put the hood on it’s a little stiff. I’m planning on the fabric either loosening over time or just trying to stretch it out.

Why I recommend it It keeps me totally dry, even in a wet snowstorm and the goose down regulates my body temperature perfectly. The fit is tailored, and allows me to customize it even more with waist cinchers and a backside button-down flap for air circulation. The coyote fur keeps snow out of my face, and the pockets are actually super warm. I am never too hot and I am never, ever cold. I wear this parka every day, it’s tailored fit is much more flattering than other parkas.

    Unbelievably Warm

Wife was consistently having winter coat issues so we opted for the Canadian Goose this winter and have not been disappointed. Extremely warm in snow and winter conditions with light layering underneath. Very, Very happy with the purchase. We re-ordered a Small so the jacket would be more snug in the midsection.

    Unbelievably Warm

I just received the basin and range parka in the mail and like it but I'm still on the fence. I wanted to know if you had any Canada Goose retailers near me?

Hey Caryn, Im not sure where you are located and what stores are around you, but if you would like to talk about this jacket please feel free to email me!

This Canada Goose is going to be a Higher Quality and a warmer jacket by far.

If I order size M and it turns out to be big, am I able to return it and get an S instead?

    Best Answer

    Hey Luca,

If you order the Medium in the Kensington Down Parka and it turns out to be too big, I can easily help you exchange it for the Small. I will even cover the return shipping costs. Also I can send you both sizes to try on and then you can return the one that does not fit for a full refund. Feel free to contact me directly with any more questions or if you are interested in setting up an order.

Will you be restocking the Kensington or Trillium parkas in Military Green or Caribou (dark brown) in size Medium this year?

When will you be ordering new shipments? I need a black XL before I move to Russia in Aug...

    Hi there,

We do have more Black/XL ordered to come in- but unfortunately we do not have an exact arrival date. We are hoping to have the first in within the next couple of weeks, and then we have more shipments expected later this year over the summer!

When will you be getting more sizes and colors in stock for the Canada Goose Kensington Parka? And are there any potential sales on these items on Backcountry?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a parka from Canada goose but am lost among the choices. All parkas seem to have 625 duck down fill power. What are the differences in them? I am looking for something long, extremely warm, and waterproof if possible. Thank you!

    Hey there,

You're right, they generally do all have that 625 fill down, so the major differences are going to be length and details that contribute to style/appearance.

while canada goose sells it's coats in all sizes, most carriers only go up to xl. I was just wondering if you guys would be willing to order in, in a larger size?

    Best Answer

    Hi Emily,

Unfortunately as of right now, we are unable to special order goods. At this time we only have up to XL ordered to come in, but hopefully this does change come later in the season

    Unanswered Question

Is the winter 2014/2015 version anticipated to be very different than last season's version? If so, what are the differences? I'm debating between buying now/this weekend and waiting for the new version to come out (unless it already is out!). Thanks!

What size would you recommend for someone 5'4" and 125 lbs?

    Hey Lauren,

The best advise I can give would be to get your chest measurement and compare it against the provided size chart. Height and weight are too effected by the lower have of your body and could easily throw off deciding between two sizes.

If after you get your chest measurement and you are still unsure which size to get please give us a call or chat in and one of our Gearheads would be happy to help you out.

Would you carry the arctic blue version...

Would you carry the arctic blue version of this jacket in September 2014?

I am looking for a S or XS in the Canada...

I am looking for a S or XS in the Canada Goose Kenisington, small sizes are very difficult to find. Are there any in this coat or other Canada Goose?

    Best Answer

Unfortunately we do not have any more smalls in stock in the Canada Goose Kensington.

However, it looks like we do have size small in the Canada Goose Victoria and Montebello. We typically do have a good run of sizes for these parkas, but they have been very popular for us this year, and we are now fairly late in the season. Again, we do have some smalls left in select models and colors, but you can expect a broader range when we get the 2014-2015 models in stock around September.
