Why We Like The Speedgoat 5 Wide Running Shoe

The Speedgoat 5 Wide keeps us quick and nimble over root- and rock-spotted singletrack. Shedding a half ounce, this iteration of HOKA's award-winning trail runner is the lightest yet, letting us pick up the pace. The all-around roomier fit accommodates our wider feet, while the plush foam propels us onward and the late-stage meta-rocker gives us a touch of added stability over technical terrain.

Feels right for my cranky knees

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
10.5 USA Wide

I am not crazy about Hoka's color schemes but love it that they sell shoes for wide feet (as I am width E) and the cushioning does feel right for my cranky but functioning knees. I don't trail run, just quite a lot of hiking, and though these are costlier than many trail shoes I do recommend them if you too have curmudgeonly knees.

Completely inconsistent

I have a pair of 9.5 regular width speed goats that I love. They have about 400 trail miles on them. I ordered a new pair of 9.5 regular width same shoe different color, and they were so narrow that I thought my toe was going to tear through the side of them. Just make a consistent shoe that's the same size. The whole concept of buying on the internet seems great, except when you have to return and reorder just because the shoe is inconsistently made. Really unhappy this time around

Disappointed

as you can probably tell from my records I have bought several pair of Hoka shoes. This is the first pair that ever felt so tight and perhaps it's the width. Thus, I have only worn them once and not sure how to deal with it. Suggestions?

Fantastic shoe!

I LOVE these shoes! I've never had a pair that felt so good running on trails. Great grip and the cushion is so nice.

Best shoe for golf

My planter fasciitis requires Hoka support full time. Have not had a problem since wearing them with insole. Would love to see Hoka come out with golf shoe. Speedgoat works great. Am lifetime buyer twice a year. Mr Solomon bindings guy sure knows his stuff.

Build quality lacking

Although the ride is similar to the Speedgoat 4 (feels soft and stable), the build quality is desperately lacking. After ~200 miles of use, the mesh upper began ripping, eventually leading to a large tear along the toe box, and the foam base has begun falling apart bit by bit. Every rock I scrape takes a bit with it. The shoe is also too shallow to comfortably use any kind of supportive insert in. They're comfortable, but don't feel responsive or durable enough to use on anything but gravel and packed dirt - definitely not for rocky trails. Also just personal preference, but I don't understand the colorways Hoka has released for this shoe. Almost all of them I would never want to be seen in public wearing. Need more neutrals/non-patterned colorways.

Nice running shoes

These are nice with fun colors but they are not my favorite style. I heard some people say these are their favorite but I like the anacapa the most. I think these are really best for just running around

Great option for hiking boots

Got the Speedgoat 5 for a hiking trip, because I feel that most hiking boots require some breaking into and she previous Hoka trail shoes were good to go from the start. This pair felt great right out of the box. Great traction on the trail, and provided protection from the occasional bumps along the trail. My only concern was that I thought the tongue would allow small pebbles to get into the shoe. No problems there either. Love the shoes and very happy with the purchase.

Slippery Slope

Once I discover another Hoka model that provides fit, support and engineering for near perfect foot comfort, I gotta get at least another pair. Speedgoat 5s are doing it for my feet. First, I have a left of average foot, kinda narrow. Speedgoats accommodate my feet perfectly. Crazy thing, I have a friend with an average width foot and they fit his foot just as well.

Shoe fits tighter than the Stinson, and so far so good.

I mostly walk but occasionally jog in these. This is my first pair of Speedgoats after 40 pairs of Stinsons. They fit tighter all around except the length which is just right and the same. But the colors available are vomit inducing. Can't believe shoes made for the trail are only available in mainly day glow and checked patterns. There wasn't one color/pattern that blends into nature.
