Barryvox Package Light

The Barryvox Package Light is Mammut's lightest package containing all the avalanche essentials required for touring the backcountry. Its Barryvox Beacon is incredibly intuitive so backcountry skiers and splitboarders can master the simple interface quickly. With a triple antenna, the Barryvox boasts an impressive 70-meter digital range through an easy-to-see display that shows distance, direction, and victim number. The Alugator Light and Probe 240 Short are Mammut's lightest shovel and aluminum probe. The shovel weighs about the same as a soda can, and the probe even less than that.

High quality, very light

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The essential equipment for avalanche safety. This kit is very light as advertised. The beacon is easy to use and has advanced features such as multi-burial search that I aim to never have to use. My only pause is that the shovel is a bit smaller and lighter than others I've carried in the past - I would be concerned about its efficiency in a true dig for life scenario.

The kit to get started in the backcountry (minus the probe)

This was my first avi safety kit to get started for ski touring. The beacon is easy to use with no extra functions that you wouldn't need as a recreational user and has longer range than most other beacons in it' class. Shovel is super light and has the thoughful touches like an oval shaft to make it quicker to assemble. Probe is light as well and quck to draw. The only reason why I did not give this package a full 10/5-star ( and I realize I did purchased the "light" version) was the surface area of the shovel was smaller than expected and the probe is only a 240 Length. Mammut should revisit their probe lengths included in these packages, even the Pro packages only include a 280 probe. Unless you are skiing/recreating somewhere with extremely shallow snow packs a 240 probe will barely get you by. In the Canadian Rockies most ski groups won't even allow you bring anything under a 300. So the 240 is deemed fairly useless in this package and had to buy a separate 320.

This package is a great deal for a really nice beacon, ok shovel, and a probe for personal use. The shovel is light but the blade is on the smaller side. The bright orange handle makes it easy to find. Probe length is 240 which is a bit short but works for recreational use. I do not like how the probe does not lock so it may detach during use.

Haven't had much opportunity to try the beacon out but the harness is comfortable and it seems pretty simple to use. The probe takes a minute to figure out but is super quick to put together once you do. I'm mostly impressed with the shovel, it's super light and compact and moves snow really fast, super useful for digging out my car the other day. I love the shovel so much I'm considering buying a second one to keep in my car 24/7.

Great Avalanche pack for the money. Really like how Mammut designed the beacon. Very straightforward to use and not huge and bulky. The probe and shovel are light weight and easy to deploy and use in any situation. An overall great design and package for getting in the backcountry. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good kit at a good price!

Fantastic kit. The Barryvox has amazing signal capabilities when everyone in your party is running it. Button design with the harness prevents user error from leaving the beacon in search. Fantastic kit.
