Earning your turns comes at a hefty cost when your life is on the line, especially after a heavy storm when snowpack stability is touchy to say the least. Even if you pick conservative terrain, analyze stability, and practice rescue techniques on a regular basis, you're still hedging your bets that the proverbial house of cards won't come tumbling down. The Mammut Barryvox Tour Package gives you the means to rescue fellow skiers and riders, as well as help others locate you underneath an avalanche debris field, should things go horribly wrong on a backcountry tour.
The Barryvox Package includes a Barryvox Beacon, Alugator Ride Shovel, and Probe 280, making it a complete package intended for locating buried victims, emitting a life-saving signal if you're buried, and digging snow pits to assess stability. The Alugator Ride Shovel easily collapses and maximizes digging strength with its hardened aluminum blade. Furthermore, the Probe 280 extends to 7.9 feet for locating victims under the snow and collapses down to only 1.5 feet in your pack.
The Barryvox Beacon is one of the most popular on the market, and for good reason, thanks to its digital 3-antenna design with a 70-meter search strip for quickly locating buried victims. It's intuitive to use with an easy-to-read display that shows distance, direction, and victim number. The ergonomic design of the beacon features large buttons that work with gloves on. Multiple burial processing comes in handy for situations where there's numerous skiers and riders underneath the avalanche debris field, with a large flagging button for marking each victim's location. Another useful feature is the automatic switching between search to send after four minutes of inactivity, as it assumes a secondary avalanche has buried you.

Barryvox is the best, but buy a kit that doesnt have a 240 cm probe
I love the Barryvox, what an incredible piece of kit. This is the only beacon you should ever own and you should not stop until all of your friends are rocking this beacon. You could give this thing to a toddler and the toddler could perform a triple burial search. Searching is easy with visual and audio ques exactly like you want them. The range is excellent and in practice searches Barryvox is almost always the first to detect. Off-SEND-SEARCH is easy to toggle and secure. I really like the ability to quickly switch the beacon from a chest harness to a beacon pocket using the attached lanyard. The shovel in this kit I could take or leave. Its very robust, but the handle shaft is awkwardly large in diameter and it doesn't pack super great. That said, the handle itself is very comfortable, and really its a shovel and it shovels. Now the probe is not so hot. The locking mechanism is very precise and hard to get it to lock when your practicing with it let alone under pressure, and for that reason alone I wont pack it in my bag. Secondly this kit was sold with a 240 cm probe, I used to ski in the Canadian rockies and even there it would be laughed at for being woefully short and partners would hum and haw at your for carrying such a liability. I get that short probes have niche uses for skimo racing where lightness matters, but lets be real someone buying this kit isnt doing that, and someone who cares that much about weight isnt buying an aluminum 240 cm probe, they are getting a carbon probe. You should buy this kit, but buy the one that comes with a bigger (ideally 300 cm) probe!

Best Beacon and avy package
As most people know, the barryvox' reputation precedes it. Ease of use, reliability, durability etc., are super solid. The off/send/search slider is great in comparison to other transceivers on the market. The Barryvox S was tempting but I think the regular has all the features I need (but hope never to use in a real life situation!). The probe at 280cm is long enough for most terrain (and practical for a burial rescue), and the folded length is more compact than other brand's packed length (easier to fit into shorter bags). The Shovel is a nice size and simple enough to operate. A hoe function I don't think is a necessary feature (wastes precious time switching to hoe mode during a rescue). Overall, very pleased with the new setup! And nice to save a bit of money on the package deal rather than buy components individually. Highly recommend the Barryvox Tour Set!

Highly recommended starter kit
Awesome starter kit for backcountry activities. Beacon is super intuitive to use and shovel/probe pack up well. Easily fits in my 20L bag with room to spare, and the shoulder strap for beacon is comfortable and easily adjustable. Great kit for skiing, snowmobiling, etc. Took a while to ship but other than that no complaints. Look no further than the barryvox touring package for your avalanche safety kit.

Great starter package
Easy to use, reliable beacon, have used the shovel for more than just avy saving! Dug out a few stuck cars this season as well. Beacon is easy to learn and easier to use.

Pretty light, pretty sturdy, super fair price!
This was the perfect intro kit to simplify all the gear needed to get out into the backcountry. The Beacon is simple and it feels like everyone uses this beacon so easy to find help. The shovel has been great throughout my training and practice digs, the probe has also been great and easy to use!

Great package with all the required safety essentials
Got to put all the gear in the box to the test for the first time during my AST-1 course this weekend. Choosing the Barryvox turned out to be the right call-it was the top recommendation from both my trainer and the training provider. For me, this gear serves as insurance, something I hope I'll never have to use. Nevertheless, it's now an essential part of my backcountry outings. The device itself was user-friendly and packed with impressive features, including a convenient group check option.

A must have
This is a must have for backcountry activities in winter. I wouldn't ever want to be without a locator beacon in the BC mountains. Shovel is solid, probe length is great.
