Why We Like The Mammut Haldigrat HS Bib Pant

Named after the Haldigrat in Central Switzerland, Mammut's Haldigrat HS Bib Pant is designed for ski touring and freeride skiing. It provides excellent weather protection with Mammut's 3-layer hard shell, which is highly durable, breathable, windproof, and waterproof to seal out slush and snowy weather. It's also designed to keep us from overheating during high-output activities, too, thanks to its highly breathable fabric and long ventilation zippers, which release steamy moisture vapor if we start to run hot on grueling ascents or warmer spring ski tours. The forgiving fit is designed for free riders with plenty of points of adjustment, including a removable rib, adjustable waist, and snap button hem adjustments to fit around our ski boots or crampons.

Excellent ski pant

Bought these for resort skiing and touring. The fit is excellent and temperature control is solid with generous zipper vents on the sides. I've skied in thigh deep powder without any snow intrusion. Fits well over a ski boot. Wouldn't climb in them since the bottom is baggier and I'd catch a crampon. Noticed they're not as waterproof as other pants I've owned. I'm unconcerned for my needs, but figured worth a callout to those with that consideration.

Top tier bibs

Mammut puts a ton of thought into their designs. This bibs are incredibly comfortable but also have some fundamental features for backcountry travel. The torso and right thigh pockets both have integrated lanyards for attaching your beacon. Mammut pants do fit a bit tight though so order a size up. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs. I normally wear 35x34 pants but ordered the size 38 bibs so I'd have room for mid layer pants underneath. I've worn them with and without midlayer pants and they fit great either way

I'm going to buy another of these as backup. They're the perfect bib for skinning and resort days.

Comfortable, light and trim

Love these pants, the only feedback is that the top section is not water proof but water resistant. Honestly probably fine, and helps with comfort of the pants, but partially defeates the purpose of a bib. Its design is to be snug. Again makes it comfortable but will compress a down mid layer if worn underneath

Almost a perfect hardshell bib

I love the weight and material of the pants. I found they performed well. Nice fit a d feature set. The elastic cuffs however failed within a few uses and there is no way to cinch it down. Will probably have to add a snap. Not sure what material they used in the elastic or if my pair was defective but it's horrible.

Perfect bibs for backcountry or resort

I've used these bibs now for about 20 days both in the backcountry and at the resort. They work great for any situation. They have the mobility to make kick turns while skinning or take high steps while boot packing and have enough room to layer underneath when it is cold. The vents are large and allow a good amount of air in while working hard. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for non-insulated bibs.

Very glad I bought oversized

6'5" 195 lbs. I have long arms, long legs and fairly broad shoulders and a slim waist. I got these in a 36L and I was worried that they would be much too baggy around the waist but it fits a lot slimmer than I thought. There is just enough room for a jacket or hoodie underneath the bibs without being tight. The length is great for me. Features are awesome so far, very light and comfortable.

Great Shell Bib-Pants - for all sizes

These are lightweight, ski bib shell pants. They are quite slim fitting, so consider your size when you purchase. They are one of the few pants on the market which have small and tall sizes. I am 193cm and 84kg, and the 32long (48long Europe) fits me well. The pants are regular fit, which looks great for skiing, and provides great flexiblity to move. The bib is a close-fitting warmer (but not waterproof layer). As it is tight fitting, I can get a base and thin-mid layer under it. But if you run very cold, you would not be able to get a thicker heavy-mid layer under unless you sized up. The Mammut Dry Technology has a very high waterproof rating, and is worth considering over other waterproofing technologies such as goretex. There are two thigh pockets and a chest pocket for a beacon. I cannot fit my phone in the chest pocket (Google Pixel), but would usually store it in my jacket. Consider whether this is important to you. The kick plates around the hem, are not the thickest material I have seen, but are easily able to cope with the edges of your skis. The denier of the fabric is lower than others out there. This helps to achieve a lower weight, but does not have te same "bomb-proof" feeling of 70D / 80D. If you are looking for modern-styled, do it all shell bib-pants that come in a range of sizes, it is hard to find anything better at this price point.
