Stay completely warm while you walk across town in frigid temperatures, and don't worry if a few snow flurries start to fall.

Those frigid walks into town and annoyingly cold drives to work aren't a problem for you anymore thanks to the Marmot Women's Montreal Down Coat. The 700-fill down insulation works its heat magic while making sure the jacket feels light as a feather on your torso, and Marmot's proprietary Down Defender treatment resists water so the down won't lose it's warmth due to just a few snow flurries. The polyester shell has a DWR coating that also resists water. A plush lining slides over your work attire like a glove, and it feels so soft against your skin that you'll wish you could work in this coat all day.

The Montreal's insulated hood keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie, and you can remove both the hood and its faux fur ruff when you don't need them. Marmot lined the internal cuffs with micro fleece, and the front pockets also have micro fleece for extra hand coziness. The internal zippered pocket stores small items like lip balm while the drop pocket holds all your bigger items like your gloves, beanie, or phone.

    I'm in love!

I simply love this down jacket! It is exactly what I was looking for. The length is perfect, the amount of fluff is perfect and my favorite part is how soft it feels. It has this super soft liner, but just in general it is soft. Its so comfortable, I want to sleep in it! It could be my new sleeping bag. Oh and it keeps me really warm and toasty too.
It fits great too. I'm 5'5" and weight 125 and order the small and I love the way it fits.

    Amazing Coat

I bought this coat after spending way too many years with a mediocre coat. It's really soft, light-weight and quite flattering. The hood is snug enough that it actually stays on, even when it's windy.

One thing to note: I'm pretty petite (5'3'') and this coat comes down midway on my thighs so if you're taller and are looking for a long coat, this may not be the coat for you. Otherwise the fit is true-to-size.

Living in New England, this is definitely the perfect winter weather coat!

This coat saved me in -30 degrees Alaska

I needed a really warm coat for a trip to Fairbanks last week. I ordered a different coat from Backcountry but it was too small. In despair, I checked the Backcountry website again and found this coat but by then it was Thursday night and we were leaving early Saturday morning. I chatted with the Backcountry representative and she was able to air mail me this coat to arrive on Friday without charge! Wow, this is amazing customer service!
I ordered the coat in an XXL. I have a broad back and always have trouble with fit around the middle. This size worked. The coat has a very soft and inviting lining, and a puffy 700 down fill. It hung about 5 inches above my knee. It was super warm and slipped very easily over my mid layer jacket and heavy polar fleece sweater. The pockets are in the right place for warming your hands. I zipped the fur off the hood because it reduced my visibility. Without the fur, the hood was perfect - I usually forgot I even had it up. I watched the Iditarod, rode snowmobiles, went ice fishing and watched the aurora borealis with this coat and I stayed warm. If I had not had this coat, I think the Alaska trip would have not been fun. Thank you Backcountry!

Love this coat! I underestimated the "fits slightly small" suggestion, so I had to try a couple of sizes ... it really IS snug .. but, then again, I am an old-fashioned (and old) person and don't like things "spray on"! Other than that ... this is a DEVINE coat!

    Highly recommend this jacket!

It kept me really warm in the ski resort in Japan, where the weather was down to minus 5 to 7 degrees C. I could just wear 1 layer beneath the jacket and didn't feel cold. It fits well, doesn't look bulky and is very light. I wear a medium and is true to size, with room enough to layer on.

    At long last!

First, I ordered three different coats (in two orders) from backcountry, and entirely through my own mistake one was shipped to the wrong address. I'd been getting help with info about the third of these from a gearhead named Zachary C. who provided the best possible customer service. I am very happy with the product selection, pricing, and service from backcountry and recommend them with enthusiasm to anyone looking for outdoor wear.
Now on to the keeper coat, the Marmot Montreal: I have been searching since last fall for a lightweight, mid thigh length warm coat and this one fits the bill (after trying and rejecting at least 5 others, from Michael Kors to The North Face). The Marmot is PERFECT! COZY with great soft inner sleeve and super fine fleece lining around the collar and upper back. I got the navy and it is a very nice shade, some color but subtle. It does run a bit small, as some others have noted. I am 5'2.5 and 110 lbs and with a regular weight sweater the S is trim fitting. Then again I was looking for something trim so keep the wind from whipping up the bottom (which some of the more princess shaped/nipped waist coats allow).

    Very disappointed

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It was finally time to buy myself a warm winter coat. I was a little shocked by the prices out there but was happy to see the sale on this one. It's a beautiful coat and the description of its features were what I wanted. I read many reviews and thought it would be perfect. So many said it ran small, I ordered the large so I could layer underneath. Putting it on I knew there would be no layering. Way too snug in the chest and I am small breasted. Before I returned it I wanted to test the warmth of it to decide if I should order the XL. I live in Maine and I walk down to the bus stop every afternoon (6 min or so) and wait about 10 min for the bus to arrive. There was little wind and the coat kept my torso warm. However, the sleeves which barely reached my wrists were not as warm. The lower part of the coat was NOT WARM AT ALL. If it had been windy the sleeves would not have been warm. I wanted to post this review so other women in northern climates would be aware of my results.

    Double Extra Fluffy

I bought this coat while enduring a particularly dry and frigid Utah winter... a bit of a shock to my Pacific Northwestern bones. After a week of just not quite getting warm enough, I invested in this coat... mainly because it came in my size. I purchased the Onyx version and my first impression was that the color was dead on. It's a cool gray without drifting into lavender territory and the furry color is a great contrast. The down fill is particularly cozy, but what I love is how soft the lining is, without sticking to whatever I'm wearing underneath. Is there anything more embarrassing than trying to take your coat off and turning it inside out 4 different ways while halfway pulling off your underclothes? I mean, I guess there is... but it's just not a problem with this coat. The pockets are at the perfect level, which is great for a thigh-length jacket, and I especially appreciate the inside tech pocket. I can thread my earbuds (yes, I still use the cord), up the collar and keep my phone tucked safely inside. No iphonesicle, no strangling, tangly cords and I stay snug as a bug. Love this one.

    I love this coat!

I ordered a medium and it fits perfectly. It's very comfortable. I love the soft lining in the pockets.
My number one concern was finding something that would keep me warm since we just moved from sunny California to snowy Utah and this coat does the job! It has kept me comfortable in -15 degree weather.

    Love it!

This coat is so warm. While it is a little fuller than others, I do not at all feel like the stay puff marshmallow man! I sized up to have extra room for layers, since I'm always cold. The Montreal has been perfect. And the customer service was AMAZING! Brooklynn spent so much time helping me find the perfect coat for me. She was so helpful and patient with my many questions. Thank you!!!!

I bought this to go to NYC for the holidays. Being from south Texas, I didn't have anything I thought would keep me warm in 20 degrees, so I took a chance on this one. It kept me warm the whole trip! In wind and cold, it did the trick. There were super cold days, I wore a fleece underneath or a thermal layer, but all in all, this is a winner! I normally wear a small (5'3', 115lbs) in most things, but seems in jackets, a medium is better in order to layer. I ordered the medium and it was perfect for adding layers. My only problem is that I had black gloves and they seem to have rubbed off at the pocket area. I am going to hope that it comes off during a wash. Still I Highly
    recommend this jacket!

I bought this jacket for my girlfriend and she loves this thing. She wears it to work, out with friends running errands you name it. She claims its the warmest jacket she has ever owned. I bought my dad the Marmot Mens Stockholm Jacket and hes in agreement with my girlfriend, they absoloutely love them. Its versatile, stylish and just all around a great buy. Personally I love Marmot products and hearing my girlfriend and my dad rave about the jackets made me very happy i purchased them.

I bought this coat about a month ago and I have fallen in love with it. Best purchase I have made for Winter. I have worn it pretty much everyday. It is comfortable, it's soft, it's waterproof, it's warm, I love the length, it fits well, but there is still enough room for me to wear layers and still zip the coat all the way up. I'm really happy with this coat.

Gave to Mom, she loves it

My mom mentioned she wanted a "warm quilted jacket" for christmas. I was fairly sure she meant a down parka like this, and for once in my life I was right. She was PUMPED. The fit is great, slim yet enough room to keep warm. Nice and long as well, everyone's body is different of course, but for her it comes down right between mid-thigh and top of knee. The fake fur is removable which was a selling point to me, but she loves it and kept it on. It has a nice cozy fleece lining as well to add to the comfort.

If you're looking for a warm winter coat and like the looks of this one I would highly recommend giving it a try.

I should point out... I marked true to size because she loved it in her usual size, Large. However, as she's gotten older she has started ordering everything in Large since she would rather be comfortable than risk it being small... and even so, it's still a fairly trim fit. So I considered it true to size because the size she requested fit perfectly, however looking at other reviews and seeing how trimly it fit her I'd say it may run a touch small/slim. Not enough to change my review, but if you are on the fence about your size I would definitely go with the bigger one.

I love, love, love this coat. I wear it every morning during mid-fall through mid-spring on my very early walk. Not only is it comfortable it looks great on and fit is so nice and flattering. I live close to the ocean so it is wonderful in keeping me warm when it is cold and windy out. I want to get another one in a brighter color whenever added colors are available. After seeing my coat two of my friends plan on ordering one.

After trying literally dozens of coats, I finally found one that helps this desert girl feel warm and cozy during Utah winters....I wear this down to the high 20s with just a tee shirt and jeans underneath and stay perfectly warm...has plenty of room to layer, so I'm great below zero with a nice base layer or sweater underneath. Amazing luxe comfort features like the high neck gaiter, stretchy wrist gaiters, soft fur trim and super soft fleece lining really push the comfort over the top. Looks great in the city, and comfy enough for casual hikes.

Does anyone think the black looks very chocolate brown?

My wife is busty and hippy- very hourglass shaped. She's generally a 14 or 16, but these brands are hard. Do you think the XXL would fit her?

FYI - I actually just tried this jacket on today. I'm usually a solid Medium. I do like my clothes a bit on the loose side. So I tried the large on and found it a little constricting in the chest area especially. I'm 5-5 and 135 lbs. I'd say this runs small. I decided not to buy it...

I'm 5'8" and 140-145 lbs. I have pretty broad shoulders (swimmer shoulders) and am debating between a medium and large. What would you suggest?

    Best Answer

I am the same height as you and about 5 lbs heavier. I tried both the M and L in a store. The M was very fitted, with only a t shirt on and the shoulders were tight when I put my arms forward. The sleeves were also too short. The L is what I went with and would suggest for you as well.

    Is it packable?

It doesn't pack down really small like many lightweight down coats do. This is a heavier weight coat, and while it will compress somewhat like any down coat will, it's not going to fit in your pocket or small bag.

    DOES IT PACK DOWN SMALL

Not really. It is meant to be worn as a causal coat for work or social outings in really cold temps.

Just my opinion from trying to stuff the jacket into a shopping bag I had nearby: The hood is not packable at all because of the fur and the body of the jacket is slightly compressible.

Does this jacket have wrist protectors (inserts for your hands) at the end of the sleeves? It is hard to tell from the picture?

On another site it says that the down leaks all over the back. Has this been a problem for anyone?

I had concern about this too. I called Marmot and they said there were some issues with some of the coats but not all of them. They apparently guarantee and so does Backcountry. I would check with customer service by phone to see how they would handle this. Not sure how Marmot would handle guarantee.

If I normally wear a medium, would a large...

If I normally wear a medium, would a large look too bulky on me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs. I really want this jacket but can't find it anywhere in medium.
