    Winter in the city.

Those morning walks down to the train station and evening strolls around the park won't be as cold with the Marmot Women's Montreal Down Coat. The 700-fill down insulation works its insulating magic while making sure the jacket feels light as a feather on your torso, and Marmot's Down Defender treatment resists water so the down won't lose its warmth when a few snowflakes start to fall. The polyester shell has a DWR coating that also resists water, and a plush lining slides over your work attire like a glove, and it feels so soft against your skin that you'll wish you could work in this coat all day.

    Gifted to my best friend

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 120lbs

I bought this as a gift for my friend for her birthday over the holidays. She absolutely loved it! It gets so cold out here in Utah, but I bought it for her because she was headed to New York as well. The 700 fill was able to keep her warm enough this season and I think I may have won her over! Seriously the Steel Onyx is the prettiest color....I need to get one for myself now!

    Super warm and comfortable!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 5'3"

I returned the first coat and exchanged for the petite because the regular was very long. This jacket is a nice weight, easy to zip and very warm.

Beautiful coat but runs a little small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I absolutely love this coat however it runs a little small. Order a size up especially if you have some arm size. Otherwise this is a beautiful well made jacket!

    My go-to coat

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this coat so much. I wear it walking ~1 mile to work every day during Boston winter and its never let me down. The length keeps my legs warm while still allowing a great range of motion. I also love the fleece sleeves inside the down that overlap well with mittens so no cold wind sneaks in.

True to size and great for cold temps

I love this coat so much I bought a second one. It is frequently subzero (Fahrenheit) where I live and so I wear this coat everyday for months. After 3 winters of the black I decided to switch it up with a new color--whitestone. Both are lovely, soft, and warm. The whitestone isn't bright white, but more of a grey/white with grey trim. I also went with a small this time instead of a medium and so glad I did! It fits true to size (no vanity sizing). I measure 5'8'' 34-27-38. No need to order up to leave space for bulky clothes. I wear snowpants over my jeans on really cold days, and a small still fits. XS = 2, S= 4/6, M=8/10, L=12/14, XL=16

What is subzero to you? I Iive in Alaska and we are frequently at -30 this time of the year. Do you think this will hold up while taking my kinder/first graders out to the bus? I don’t want to have to add another layer, I am looking for a very warm (long) jacket that I can just throw on and go.

    love it

I cant wait to wear this coat in college next year! It is super warm and seems as though it will last forever! the fit is great! I sized up because it was tight on the arms, I am usually a medium.

    Very Warm Coat

I recently used this jacket on a trip to Banff, Canada. The average temps were -15 F during the entire time we were there. I wore this with 2 layers underneath and I was perfectly warm. I did use a merino wool layer and often times a thin sweatshirt type shirt but you have to layer in those temps. I'm so happy with my purchase. I also use it in the mornings when it's maybe in the 50's-60's in California too. Love it.

    Not warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I just received my order, can't keep the 0° out of it... very cute, but not warm enough for a Minnesota winter. Looking for something warmer. Customer service suggested to wear 2+ jackets .. or their expedition line... still looking for 1 jacket that lived up to how warm my fist down jacket is too warm.... even with the polar vortex and 1 jacket warm under $1000.

    Beautiful but not perfect

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

This is a lovely coat with great features and I was so delighted with BackCountry for the terrific sale price, free shipping and easy exchange. Many people with my dimensions seemed happy with the medium. Medium felt snug with very little on under it, and the large is voluminous even with a big sweater. It feels like a silky bathrobe, but my vanity wonders if I look like a bed in it. I like to think the roominess will trap in more air. Ease of movement is superb. I wish I weren't so vain. I might end up loving this coat.

    The Perfect Winter Coat

I bought this coat to help get me through the brutally cold winters of Northern Michigan and I am so glad I did. I absolutely love it, it's so warm! The fit of the coat is extremely flattering, very true to size and I still have enough room to layer when I need to. It is so soft on the inside and the outside. The fleece inside and around the wrists is a nice touch. I do not find the sleeves to be too short as some other reviews suggested. I would highly recommend this coat!

    Gift for mom!

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 118lbs

I can not believe my mom liked this coat... she is super picky and this was a winner. She loved the light, soft feel of the coat. This coat is also very warm while still having a style and fit that can be worn almost anywhere. It is very versatile, you can remove the hood and you can even remove the faux fur trim. This was a great feature for my mom. I am super happy that my very cold mother will now be able to walk outside without freezing!!!

    Love it!

I haven't worn it in some of the very frigid temps of New England, but so far it has felt warm. I particularly appreciate the collar which also acts as a face shield! The color is a cross between ivory and a very pale silver, very pretty.
It comes just above my knee. I am 5"2. The sleeves come right to my wrist which is surprising for a regular size. It does run small! I usually take a large and had to size up to an ex-lge. It still left some room for layering. The only things I would change are there is no 2 way zipper, and there are no elastic cuffs at the wrist. Otherwise it has been a great coat so far, and I got it on sale!

    You should buy this one!

This was my first "long" jacket to replace my wool pea-coat I had owned for years. My first week wearing it was in ID and MT where it got down to 6 degrees F. I wore a sleeveless and short-sleeve dresses under and was able to walk around very toasty and warm. I also wore with both a thicker fleece and 3 different style sweaters and walked around town and was comfy and warm. if anything i got too warm when i went into stores and meetings. I love the double zipper. Makes using the restroom so easy and good for unzipping in stores to let some of the warm air out. The hood fits great on my head with and without a hat, hair up and hair down. I love the material is "shiny" so things don't stick to it. It has fleece on the inside against the body and your wrists. I was a little blah about the fleece on the wrists and was thinking i wanted something tighter. After wearing for a week straight this isnt a concern. I was also concerned that since I bought this for a professional work coat i would look frumpy. I don't think that at all after wearing. It pulls into the waist very nicely.

    You should buy this one!

Comfortable warm coat but some flaws

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I am 130 lbs, 5'7 and going off of other reviews I ordered a large because several people said it ran small. I am usually a medium. The large was a bit too large but the sleeves are way too short so going down a size likely wouldn't work. In addition, I ordered the steel onyx which online looks like a steel blue color. Upon arrival I discovered it is really a dark grey.

    Beautiful Coat

    • Size Bought: XXL
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 190lbs

Really hoping it would fit me. I wear a size 16-18. XXL is too small. I'm really sad. It's beautiful and soft and cozy. It doesn't come larger, which is too bad.

    Super cozy

    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'5"

Extremely cozy. My only complaint is that the arms could be a little longer. As someone who likes to pull the sleeves over my hands when it is cold out, it is hard to do that with this jacket. Other than that, I wore this thing into spring even though it was unnecessary-- just loved wearing it so much!!

    Unanswered Question

What is the material inside the pockets? Also, does this coat have the wrist protection with thumb holes?

Does anyone think the black looks very chocolate brown?

My wife is busty and hippy- very hourglass shaped. She's generally a 14 or 16, but these brands are hard. Do you think the XXL would fit her?

FYI - I actually just tried this jacket on today. I'm usually a solid Medium. I do like my clothes a bit on the loose side. So I tried the large on and found it a little constricting in the chest area especially. I'm 5-5 and 135 lbs. I'd say this runs small. I decided not to buy it...

I'm 5'8" and 140-145 lbs. I have pretty broad shoulders (swimmer shoulders) and am debating between a medium and large. What would you suggest?

    Best Answer

I am the same height as you and about 5 lbs heavier. I tried both the M and L in a store. The M was very fitted, with only a t shirt on and the shoulders were tight when I put my arms forward. The sleeves were also too short. The L is what I went with and would suggest for you as well.

    DOES IT PACK DOWN SMALL

Not really. It is meant to be worn as a causal coat for work or social outings in really cold temps.

Just my opinion from trying to stuff the jacket into a shopping bag I had nearby: The hood is not packable at all because of the fur and the body of the jacket is slightly compressible.

Does this jacket have wrist protectors (inserts for your hands) at the end of the sleeves? It is hard to tell from the picture?

If you're talking about the kind that covers your palm and a hole for the thumb, no it doesn't. It just has a fleece cuff (not elasticized) that comes right up to the inside of the down exterior material.

On another site it says that the down leaks all over the back. Has this been a problem for anyone?

I had concern about this too. I called Marmot and they said there were some issues with some of the coats but not all of them. They apparently guarantee and so does Backcountry. I would check with customer service by phone to see how they would handle this. Not sure how Marmot would handle guarantee.

If I normally wear a medium, would a large...

If I normally wear a medium, would a large look too bulky on me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs. I really want this jacket but can't find it anywhere in medium.
