Why We Like The Norrona Lyngen Alpha100 Zip Hooded Jacket

We have found that the Norrona Lyngen Alpha100 Zip Hooded Jacket thrives where other insulated jackets fall flat. The key performance period where this jacket thrives is during the high-speed ascents where we really work up a sweat. It is during this period that the Polartec Alpha is able to wick moisture and most notably breathe better than similar jackets.

Meeting Expectations

Trying to figure out Norrona as an alternative to Arc'teryx, and so far I am pleased. This piece is a good jacket, holds heat surprisingly well for it's weight and thickness, probably courtesy of the Polartec Alpha. Small fits well, a bit long on the torso, but nothing out of the norm for a mid or outer layer. Working well today, 40F, walking around outside with a thin base later and vest underneath. Is a bit crinkly and noisy, but that doesn't seem to impact the feel so far. There are two stitches on the inside of the end of the sleeves, which have stitching that occasionally scratches my wrists in an unpleasant manner. Overall, works well for me! Glad I got it. Would compare it to a bit noisier Atom LT, perhaps not quite as warm, but so far doing a good job as a replacement.

Packs tight, small, and weighs nothing. Warmth to weight ratio is incredible but breathes enough for high cardio activities. Full mobility and oh so comfortable. Not an activity I wouldn't use it for, in fact, I'm wearing it right now. I love it for cold, windy days on the skin track. Not waterproof enough for rain, but plenty of protection from blowing snow. So thin it's a great option as a layer under a shell, as it won't restrict your movement. Also a go to for cold weather hiking, I throw it on for late season biking as well. Looks super sharp, you'll grab it for trips to the store, and nights out. If you're searching for a do everything layer, this is it!

I have the vest version of this - both the original and newer version, and wear them nearly every day in the fall/winter/spring. This jacket completes the package. I wear this all winter long outside over a flannel down to 20F, and under my goretex shell for skiing when its super cold. Also packs down pretty well for popping into a backpack. Warm, lightweight, looks great. Five stars as usual, Norrona.

Not breathable

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Disappointing design. The outer fabric is not a breathable material, which sort of negates the whole point of making a midlayer with Polartec Alpha. Fabric is also stiff and crinkly so not as comfortable.
