Fun river runner.

The Solo NEXT canoe seems to be a very good canoe, however the bottom is not flat as advertised. It does have a small keel running the length of the bottom so it does not turn as quickly on the river as a flat bottom canoe does (I have 10 canoes of various sizes). The NEXT is narrow and easy to paddle with a kayak paddle. The seat is very comfortable and has a stowage capacity under the seat for thin objects held suspended under the seat.

Owner for over 2 years

Great for float camping. I am able to bring almost anything I want 65 liter bag in front and 110 liter in back. Tracks good and is fast. The chair is the best, I am able to float 5-6 hours without my back killing me.

Beautiful but I need more.

This is a pretty boat in the size, capacity and style I want BUT i need a shallow arch bottom. I just will not have a flat bottom in my fleet.

Fantastic For Fishing

This is my second year fishing in a NEXT and I love it! I traded a traditional sea kayak in for a NEXT because I get in and out of my boat a lot as I float rivers. The seat in the NEXT is very comfortable for fishing all day. You can easily adjust the seat and change positions in the boat which is difficult to do in a traditional kayak. The NEXT is lightweight, so I can easily throw it in the back of my truck. I looked at fishing kayaks and they are too big and heavy for my needs. I prefer to paddle my NEXT with a kayak paddle. For many years I fished from a two man canoe with my son. Now that my son is grown and left home, I have been looking for the perfect solo fishing rig. I am glad that I found the NEXT.

Fast but tippy

I would say that this canoe is unstable for fishing. It is however fast through the water. I plan on putting some kind of pontoon on mine because stepping onto it and getting seated in it is almost impossible.

Great boat for me and my dog

I've had this boat for a couple weeks now. I took it once to play around in it. I love it. Tracks real well. Has a lot of storage space. My only problem with it is this. The strap on the side of the seat broke off cause it didn't have a washer in place when I went to close the seat up. Otherwise I think it's great. Little heavy too. But old town needs to fix the seat better before shipping it out. I shouldn't have to for the price I paid. Rant out!

Excellent Boat!

I bought my Next about 2 years ago, and in that span have had it on the water for about 40 trips - some 5-10 mile paddles on a calm river, and many trips on local ponds for the primary purpose of fishing. I bought the Next for its ability to easily bring along our dog (75 lb German Shepherd Dog) on paddles, and it does indeed have plenty of space for myself, her, fishing gear, and my wife's gear. The seat is very comfortable for long days paddling or fishing. The boat tracks reasonably well for being a canoe, and the lower sides than a traditional canoe help prevent it from being blown around in the wind. The stability is great and I have no problem with the dog moving around the boat. For me it is not stable enough to do any stand up fishing, but that is not its purpose. We also have an OT Dirigo 12' Angler - interestingly when I go fishing I always find myself drawn to the Next - the openness makes it a great fishing vessel. With some side tracks to mount organization it will only get better. Hopefully the Dirigo will be replaced soon with a new Topwater to allow me to stand while fishing, but the Next will remain in the fleet a long time - it is awesome to be able to bring along a child, dog, have room to spare, and be able to paddle it like a kayak!
