Why We Like The Outdoor Research Stormcraft Down Parka

Made for unforgiving northern winters, the Outdoor Research Stormcraft Down Parka delivers the warmth and weather protection we need for blizzards, polar vortexes, and below-zero temperatures. It combines the lofty insulation of 700-fill power down with a waterproof, windproof, and breathable GORE-TEX membrane—which not only keeps snow, ice, and rain off our bodies, but also keeps the down dry to preserve its heat-hugging loft. With an insulated hood and longer cut, the parka keeps us warm from our head down to our knees with high coverage and heavy-duty protection for cold climates and inclement weather.

Too thin and not enough insulation

Don't be fooled by the number of 700+ fill power this jacket has way less insulation than you think. Not sure how some people in their reviews called it bulky. I love every details of this jacket honestly - GoreTex canvas shell, polar fleece lined hood and pockets, lots of pockets etc... But I am sorry this jacket just isn't warm enough for you to go anywhere below -15. It's thin and not as puff as you think a 700+ down jacket should be. Very disappointed!

I've been hunting for a winter coat for months. This coat has finally hit all my criteria! Lots of pockets, a tough and sturdy shell, roomy enough to wear with a sweater, cuffs, and a lovely turtle-green color. This coat is perfect for me. I'm in a rainy Northeast town and this coat is both warm and waterproof.

Just what I wanted but for one detail

I bought this jacket specifically for walking the Oregon coast in wet weather. It is precisely what I needed. As I get colder than most, I have to add an additional down sweater layer inside, for which this jacket is designed, but otherwise it's perfect. I walked the wet redwoods, and on many beaches, and it did exactly the job I wanted. It can be bulky for some; I would not take this on adventure travel as it's way too big and bulky. But for local use with the rain and wind, terrific. Plan for it to be roomy for layers. Love the many pockets.

Arctic Adventures Approved

I used this parka when traveling to northern Norway in January. Average temps were around 20F/-6C but lots of wind in some locations. I generally run cold so I wanted to make sure I had something warm and versatile enough for the various tours and time I would spend outside. This parka nailed everything I was looking for! Amazing windproof tech. Plenty of pockets and large enough to fit what I needed (no need for a purse as I was roaming around town). Large inside pockets for my mittens or gloves. Love the inside breast pocket for my phone, I realized keeping my phone there was perfect so it would stay warm with my body heat. This parka seriously made my trip so much more enjoyable knowing I was warm enough for anything thrown at me. Paired with OR merino wool base layers was a huge plus.

Solid Winter Coat

Pros: You'll never get cold, blocks wind very easily, I like big hoods for when I hear beanies and it still manages to easily cover my head without feeling tight. Cons: It fits a tad on the larger side (which is okay if you layer up, up you'd be pretty toasty with layers AND this jacket). My other wish for this jacket was if the ends of the sleeves would have a velcro cuff. Overall, this was tested out in Detroit in the month of December, and I was pleasantly impressed with everything about this coat. An extra plus was how many compliments I recieved! Look forward to any other colors OR may add in the future.

LOVE

Warmth, comfort, style, intuitive features- absolutely love this coat and worth every penny. ONLY downside is the zipper can be fussy, but nothing that would stop me from highly recommending

Look No Further

One of the warmest jackets ever! Super comfy and stills allows for a full range of movement and activities. As cold as it has been in the upper Midwest, this jacket has been been heaven sent!
