The look of a sweater with the feel of a fleece.

When you want the heat-trapping power of fleece, but you don’t want to look like a wooly bugger, reach for the Men’s Patagonia 1/4-Zip Better Sweater. It has a knit exterior for a clean, sharp look and a fleecy heat-holding interior. It is warm enough to wear as a jacket in cool weather, but when things get really chilly, you can wear it under a shell as a midlayer. Raglan sleeves lend to the athletic aesthetic and keep you comfortable when you’re slinging a pack across campus or to a remote hot spring.

    • A well-rounded fleece for everyday wear in town and in the mountains
    • Sweater-knit face with fleece interior with heathered yarns
    • Dyed with low-impact processes to reduce the use of dyestuffs
    • Quarter-zip pullover design with stand-up collar
    • Raglan sleeves promote mobility and remain comfortable under a pack
    • Flat-seam construction reduces bulk and helps prevent chafing
    • Classic regular fit with shape-holding trim at cuffs and hem
    • Item #PAT00WW

    Great product!
usually an XL but had to exchange for L.
Soft and warm for the thickness.
    Wish there were side pockets

Dad Loves It! And He's Picky

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

    • Size Bought: Medium

I was searching for some simple but high quality christmas gifts that would last my family a few years -- so naturally I chose some Patagonia sweaters! My dad is your very typical track suit wearing Eastern European, and he can be really picky with his style of clothing. He wears the same colors (navy, black, white, grey, dark greens) and the same style for as long as I've known him (23 years). He's so simple with is wardrobe its' actually hard to shop for him!

I looked at the Patagonia Better Sweater knowing it was the very same thing he always wears -- a collared 1/4 Zip Fleece. But my dad's usual collection of fleeces don't even compare to the look (classic!) and sustainability of Patagonia products. After speaking to my mom who was sick of seeing him in drab colors, I took a risk and bought him one in Classic Red (he's not a bold colors person) size medium, and my dad loved it! The Medium fits him perfectly, and it fits right in with his wardrobe while standing out as one of the nicer pieces he owns.

    Two thumbs up!

Ah. The Better Sweater. What can I say? I'm wearing it right now as I type this. I might die in it. Who knows. It's not coming off.

Great Quality, Warm, Perfect for Layers

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this as a gift for my cousin that is an avid skier and is always in search of a fleece jacket that he can layer while on the mountain. The color (industrial green) looks just like the picture and it fits him true to size - he wears a small in almost all jackets and hoodies. He has already worn it on the slopes and said it was great to wear over a base layer and under a shell, and after a few runs he could pack his shell away and just wore this the rest of the afternoon.

Nice colors, good fabric, terrible cut

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 160lbs

    pros:
    -warm
    -nice colors
-good quality fleece (although the material will develop "hiker's stink" over time, which cannot be removed by washing)

    cons:
    -no pockets
-quite expensive compared to other brands ($100 for a pullover with no pockets? c'mon)
-runs HUGE in the waist, like unwearable unless you have a big gut to fill it out
-return policy from Backcountry is awful

    Can't Keep It To Myself!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 150lbs

Fabric is very soft and comfortable, runs true to size, perfect for cold weather but not completely waterproof or wind resistant. Wife always steals it.

    Classy and Warm

    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'11"

I bought this in the nickel color for my boyfriend. Color is great and it is stylish for going out. Only thing is it is the wind goes through it. So good to wear with something warm under.

Patagonia great Backcountry not so much

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large

Bought it as a gift and was too large. Backcountry boasts a world class return and exchange policy.... but they charge you 6.99 for shipping. The sweater was the same price on other website that have better 2017 level customer service. I would recommend avoiding this site if you are gift buying.

6.99 is a very reasonable price for return shipping, especially since they offer free 2 day shipping. Shipping a 1 pound sweater across the country is usually more expensive than 6.99. Most websites require you to pay return shipping. It's not backcountry's fault that the sweater didn't fit.

    Warmth Everlasting

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'8"

This is the warmest article of clothing I own, yet I can wear if all day at the office and outside comfortably down to 30 F. It's cozy, looks great and I got a stellar deal buying it from Backcounty. A+.

    Versatile Necessity

Bought this as a gift for my brother and he loves it!: "I could not be happier with the use I am going to get out of it. I have been in need of a warm sweater that is durable and casual enough to wear when doing outdoor activities, but also sophisticated enough to wear around the city and into work. The pocket on the chest is a great spot to keep an energy bar and/or your phone, This pullover keeps me warm but is breathable, and the ability to unzip around the neck area is a luxury."

I loved my better sweater so much that bought a his and hers set for my parents for Father's/Mother's Day. Love the feel, fit, the quality, and most of all to support an awesome company like Patagonia.

    Ultimate Addition to any Closet

Man. This is a piece that I had eyed for years before finally purchasing, even though I knew all along just how I'd feel when it arrived.

It's pretty much a perfect piece. Incredibly soft, and I mean incredibly, on the skin side. The super soft fleece touches the skin, while the outside is brushed smooth like a sweater.

I recommend getting in an every day color like grey, navy, black. That way, you can wear it anywhere and everywhere. Personally, I don't take mine camping or hiking, it is a bit heavy for that, thought performance wise there's no question it's burly and technical enough to keep you warm without getting trashed in the bushes. Mine is more of an around town piece, from work to the movies to the coffee shop... airports to libraries to Christmas morning. This thing looks nice, feels nicer, and is made by a company that cares for the environment and future generations. Can't go wrong.

    a definite closet necessity!

Bravo Patagonia! This is my favorite outerwear for any fall-winter activity, making me feel like i'm braving an iceland storm. I wear it ranging anywhere from hiking through the canyon to sitting by the campfire on a cold night. I wouldn't take any other pullover I have previously worn over this on a ski day either. It is an everyday go to.
the fleece inner-lining keeps you extremely warm and is baby bottom soft. the quarter zipper is long and this is easy to pull on and off unlike some others (spyder) that are tight under the arm. the two tone color is fun, and the zip pocket on the chest is easy to access and plenty large enough for a phone and small wallet.
extremely durable as I have beaten the snot out of it and looks brand new still. I chuck it in the washer and dryer and hasn't shrunk either. I will end up most likely buying this in all of my favorite colors!

    The Best

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After I purchased a 1/4 Better Sweater for myself I knew I had to share the love so I picked one up for my boyfriend as well. I can vouch that this is one of my favorite pieces to wear in the winter, I basically never take it off and it is still so comfortable and looks great. I have no doubt that then men's version of this fleece will be the same. I definitely earned some serious brownie points with this gift as it has become the go-to fleece for my man as well as me.

This is great for early mornings or to layer. I bought an XL to wear as a stand alone if I wanted to only layer this piece I would have bought an L.

    My Favorite!

I love this sweater and I find myself wearing it on almost a daily basis.
Super warm! Warmest sweater you will own.
The sweater is reinforced in all of the important places ~ arm cuff, elbows, waist, collar.
It is a very typical Patagonia garment and it is an athletic fit. If you know how Patagonia clothes fit you, you'll have no problem with this sizing. It does not run large, it just doesn't run fitted.
I highly recommend this product. You'll get your money out of it!
