    The ultimate jacket.

Consider the Patagonia Women's Down Sweater Jacket as a Jane of All Trades, if you will. This jacket touts a versatile construction that makes it ideal for early-season ice climbing, mid-winter skiing, or casually wearing in cool winter temperatures. As its name suggests, the Down Sweater is equipped with lightweight and compressible 800-fill Traceable Down, meaning the geese whose feathers insulate this jacket are never force-fed or live-plucked. Additionally, the down insulation is certified by NSF, an independent third party.

Down insulation is fine and dandy, but it's virtually useless without a little extra protection—which is why the designers at Patagonia outfitted the jacket with a durable recycled ripstop exterior that safeguards your core warmth, without compromising the jacket's lightweight constitution. And to bolster your defense, a DWR treatment easily sheds light moisture, so you stay warm and comfortable no matter what Mother Nature throws your way. Horizontal baffles are sewn through to prevent the down from shuffling around, meaning you stay warmer, longer, while the updated, contoured fit and slightly longer hem length double down on your protection. Additionally, zippered hand pockets keep small necessities close by and secure, and an internal chest pocket easily converts into a stuff sack for the jacket.

    • A versatile, warm jacket for climbing or casual wear
    • Recycled ripstop exterior is tough, breathable, and lightweight
    • DWR treatment sheds light moisture
    • 800-fill Traceable Down assures lofted warmth
    • Hand pockets keep small necessities close by
    • Internal pocket doubles as a stuff sack for jacket
    • Adjustable hem provides a personalized, sealed-in fit
    • Contoured fit and slightly longer hem double down on warmth

    Tried and True

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 110lbs

This is such a staple in my closet. I own two of them. They last forever, and they're super lightweight. Perfect to throw on as a mid-layer on a cold day on the mountain, or the perfect layer to throw on after you're done with a trail run. The best part of these jackets is how warm they are while being so lightweight.

Great City Winter Coat & Layering Piece

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear this coat around town most days in the winter. It's pretty slim and isn't bulky, which is nice for around town. It is also a great piece to wear under a shell while skiing. I have it in black, which helps create a more polished look as well. Pretty warm, but I don't use it on days below 20 usually and instead, would rather wear a Fitz Roy. I think this is the most versatile Patagonia down jacket. Mine has some holes in it where down is falling out now so make sure to store it somewhere safe.

    So warm and comfy!

I have had my eye on this jacket for ages! When my old jacket finally bit the dust I decided to go for it. Glad I did! It's lightweight, extremely warm, packable, and VERY wind resistant! I've worn it on freezing days, chilly nights, and blustery winter days, and it has out performed every other jacket I have owned in the past.***I purchased the Harvest Moon in a size medium. It is a slightly fitted jacket that does fit true-to-size( I bought a size up for layering reasons). The color is a pretty blue-purple color.***

      So warm, and comfy!

I have had my eye on a Down Sweater Jacket for ages, and I finally got one! It is the perfect jacket for chilly nights, frosty mornings, and blustery freezing days. It's even a great pillow when you have to camp out at the airport waiting for a flight! It's lightweight, compressible, and allows me to pack lighter without having to drag a million jackets, and sweatshirts with me.

Nice to wear everyday or as a layer

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: small
        • Height: 5'5"
        • Weight: 130lbs

I put off buying this jacket because it seemed everyone in town had the exact same jacket. The print fabric gives it a different look and it's so very warm and light. I have the nano and the nano puff. This is the warmest.

        Comfy

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'3"
        • Weight: 126lbs

This is a great jacket! It is very light and comfortable to wear. I always wanted to try Patagonia and finally when you had a sale plus 20% was a plus.

        Not a winter coat

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size

This jacket is very comfortable and fits nicely, however I'm disappointed with the lack of warmth it provides. In temperatures below 50 degrees, this jacket requires a fleece or heavy sweater underneath to stay warm. After reading the above description and considering the high price, I expected it to be much warmer.

        Great gift for mom!

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'6"
        • Weight: 155lbs

I bought this for my mom for her birthday and she raves about it. It fits her great and she loves the weight to warmth ratio! This was a great way to make one of the women who mean most to me smile!

        Love the Color!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Height: 5'5"
        • Weight: 150lbs

I ordered the Harvest Moon Blue and love it! I ordered an XL and there is room for a fleece underneath or sweater. I probably could of gone with the L if I wanted it more fitted but this is just fine. I have fitted fleece jackets from Patagonia for a milder type of weather, if need be.

I ordered this to replace my Nuptse jacket from North Face which I had for 10yrs. This jacket isn't as bulky and was half the cost.

Hoping this particular jacket will last a decade, too, but time will tell.

This color is more so an Electric Cobalt Blue or Electric Cornflower, if that makes any sense.

        cute and warm

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: Runs small
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'4"
        • Weight: 130lbs

Have only had this jacket for 2 weeks and I've been wearing it almost every day. Good for mild winter temps. Great color options and a great sale! I ordered up to a medium so that I could wear a fleece or sweatshirt underneath.

        Lightweight warmth~~LOVE

        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'2"
        • Weight: 120lbs

Purchased a Patagonia Down Sweater several years ago and though it is showing only the slightest signs of wear and tear I decided to buy another this year just to have another color option. Hands down....this is the most versatile down jacket I own. Compared to the heavier down hooded jacket hanging in the closet , my Patagonia DS gets far more use. Great for camping, hiking, shoulder seasons-Spring, Fall , around town, in the chilly house in the winter and the PNW winters with a shell and base layers. It is lightweight, packs down small and though not waterproof, it does repel light rain and moisture for brief periods of time.

The only issue I have with the new Patagonia down sweater is the fit has changed requiring me to do an exchange. It is misleading online to rate this a "regular" fit and it would have been most helpful to have a heads up/alert to the change in fit online at time of ordering. This newer 2016/2017 model is more fitted and tapered in the waist and hip. Size Small in the newer Patagonia DS is slightly smaller than the size XS I purchased 2-3 years ago!! Once I sized up one size I have to admit the fitted vs the boxy fit of my older model DS looks much better. If you are between sizes you may want to go up at least one size. For reference, I'm 5'2" 120 pounds 34C/D and current size S fits with plenty of room to accommodate heavier base layers and still have good mobility of my arms and shoulders. LOVE the Harvest Moon Blue color which is a beautiful, rich true blue. Every time I wear this I'm reminded of the exceptional Patagonia quality and life time guarantee.

For Christmas I also purchased the men's version of this DS to gift to an elderly friend (82 years old). He is very pleased and astonished how lightweight yet warm his new jacket is. Highly recommend!!!

        nice n warm

        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 160lbs

I bought the mens version of this jacket and my mom had to have one. The down is Very warm and the outer layer still deters moisture quite well. If I had to carp on it seems a little bit short at the bottom but an excellent warm jacket!

They don't make them like they used too

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
        • Fit: Runs small

I have an older version of this jacket and love it! Great for backpacking and out in town. However, the contoured shape makes these now a smaller. My older version was L and fit great. With the new version I now have to buy an XL. Why can't companies stop messing with things that work.

Super Warm and Great for Layering

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'7"
        • Weight: 150lbs

Fits great and is very warm. I would have given the product a rating of 5 stars, however, I received the jacket with a huge tear along the inside right armpit area. Luckily, I was able to exchange it directly from the local Patagonia store.

        Runs Large!

        • Size Bought: Small
        • Height: 5'4"
        • Weight: 105lbs

I'm 5'4, 105 pounds, petite. I wear a small in everything. I do not like things to fit snug. I bought the size small hoping it would leave room for layers and would give me the loose fitting look I wanted. When it arrived, i realized the small fit more like a medium/large. The fit is also odd to me, it's very short & wide. The Nano Puff fits much better if you like a little length to cover your rear. Also, the Patagonia website under "sizing" stated that in Spring 2015 they increased the bust. Maybe that's why the small seems so large to me now. Awesome customer service! Good luck!

Can I wash this jacket or dry clean it? Recently, our AC shut off while we were away . Because of the humidity, everything has Mildew damage or at least had that smell.

        Unanswered Question

I wore this jacket twice but I think it's a little too big. Can I exchange for a medium?

I just got this Patagonia Nano Puff Sweater Jacket. I love the light weight, the feel and the color but the sleeves are way too long and the body is a little too long. Does it come in a petite?

for the patagonia down sweater, what is the difference between the sumac red and the turkish red? is one brighter than the other?

        Best Answer

        Adela,

The Sumac Red is a more muted tone than the super-bright, more orange-y Turkish Red. Hope this helps-- feel free to give me a shout if you have any other questions! llabar@backcountry.com or 801-736-6399.

Is the Cochineal Red truly red or more orange-y? It's hard to tell from the photo.
