Insulated with ethically sourced down and made of a recycled polyester fabric, the jacket not only keeps you warm and cozy, but it keeps your conscience feeling warm and fuzzy too. Amazing Look, Great for Moderate cold

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small

First, I bought this parka during the semi-annual sale so I got it for practically half off, so for the price I am super happy with the jacket. However, after wearing the parka in 25-35 F degree weather I have to say that you definitely need to layer underneath to stay warm. One major reason for this, is that when it's really windy, you can feel it. The jacket does a great job of keeping in your heat, especially when you have a pullover or light jacket underneath. Functionality wise, it's great, only complaint is the zipper gets stuck sometimes and you have to work to get it unstuck. Style wise, I couldn't be happier, this is one of the most flattering parka you can find! I got black so it goes with pretty much everything. I also appreciate the hood, it keeps you warm and doesn't have ridiculous fur on it. Last note, I usually wear xs or s in items, and I decided to order a small in this jacket so I could layer! It's perfectly snug with a Patagonia pullover underneath. Also, for you ladies out there, I'm usually a 34B and this jacket doesn't ever feel too tight on the chest when layering underneath the jacket, It zips all the way up, and feels very comfortable. Overall, its a great parka keeps you warm and looks great, but the one thing I would stress, is that I don't think this jacket is for very very cold weather (20s), it just isn't thick enough, especially for the retail price. So if you need something for extreme weather, I would not recommend spending nearly 400 on this parka. Hope this helps!

Best Winter Coat I've Ever Owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS

My third winter with this coat is winding down and it still looks as good as the day I received it. I'm ALWAYS cold so this is perfect for me. It's amazing how much warmer my body is when my knees and thighs are covered. The XS fits me perfectly. It's more form-fitting and not boxy like other coats I tried. Great investment!

    Great coat for Boston winters

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Love this coat. Keeps me warm and I like the high collar- adds more style than your typical "puffy coat". It is very long on me (I'm 5'3") and it hits me mid calf, but that's what I was looking for. I get a lot of compliments on it and recommend it to everyone. The zipper caught on me, as others have said, the first few times I wore it but not anymore.

    Nice coat, but...

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: small

I've always loved this coat and each season I say I'm going to buy one. Finally, I did and what happens? The color is not at all as it appeared nor as it was named. Dark Ruby? Um, that would describe a deep red to me, though I could see in the photos it wasn't that. However, it did come across as more of a bronze-like reddish color so I thought that would be a nice neutral color. Well, it was neither dark ruby nor bronze-like reddish, but rather a deep dusty rose. It has a great deal of pink in the hue. So disappointing! I wish manufacturers would name the colors as they truly are rather than trying to come up with something that sounds good for marketing. I guess I have to wait another year to see if they come out with some really great color...like a beautiful blue or green, or bring back the amazing espresso brown they had moons ago. The styling of the coat is great! Yes, the collar/hood is a bit odd looking when rolled up, but I can get past that. It's a very flattering coat, but does run on the small side. I'm a petite athletic build with muscular arms and normally wear 2-4 or XS in clothing. I could wear the small with lightweight sweaters, but if I were to put it over a heavier sweater (which I wouldn't) it would have been a bit restrictive.

    What's w the hood?

I really wanted to like this coat - I've been searching for a replacement to my North Face Metropolis. This coat failed. The fit was great, I liked the length, seemed like it would be very warm. But that collar-slash-'hood' thing was horrible. Big mistake in design. You look like you belong on Star Trek. I am sadly paying the $6 return shipping fee and sending it back :(

Not good for cold weather, not warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M

I got the Downtown Parka and I'm wearing it now that winter has come. It is not warm at all, this Parka doesn't offer any protection against cold weather and don't even wanna tell you how cold I can feel at -9 celsius. I have to wear a sweater, another jacket and then it and still feel so cold on my legs! Totally and unfair waist of money.

    Wonderful down parka, good quality!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Slim, lightweight and comfortable but warm parka. Really nice model and good fit. Size Medium is perfect for me, even the sleeves are long enough (I'm 174cm/ 5'9'' and 66kg/145lb, athletic). The coat is warm enough even here in Finland...

    Sizing for the hourglass shape

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: L

Originally ordered a medium after reading the reviews, figured it would fit well enough. It almost did, just not across my chest (34D). Thanks to Back Country for a rapid exchange, the roomier L is very comfortable across the chest and is longer, which I appreciate. Not much difference that I can see in the shoulders and the arm length. I think body shape is important to consider in addition to your weight/height. Comfy coat, I am less afraid of NYC's winter this year!

    Warm, stylish coat!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Great color & length, very happy with this jacket so far. It's particularly warm & I like the slender fit. The zipper pockets are a bit tricky to open/close at times but overall very pleased.

Worked for my daughter but not for me.

Daughter is30, 34C, slender and athletic. Nice styling with high collar, partially hidden monks hood, and deep pockets. Hit her below knee and with her height it looks great. I had a little trouble with zipper but she didn't. Deep Mahogany nice near neutral color, no fake fur needed. Will keep her toasty in winter while supervising school playground in CO mountains. Replaces a Pantagonia long down coat that she wore for years.

But on me M too tight especially in the chest, and L too roomy all the way around. (I'm 5'6" 150lbs 36B a little pear shaped). Had the same size issues with Marmot Montreaux. The basin + range Evergreen and Skyline style coats did fit me nicely (but didn't keep them for other reasons, see my other reviews for details). Thought the longer length of Downtowner looked a little dowdy on me at my height, without higher heeled boots. .

Nice Coat for mild winter weather

I really loved the design as it is very "city chick" for being a down coat. It is also fitted on very nicely. But I did find it had to little down filling for cold winter weather. It also did not have a lining in the back which means that wind will blow through it where the seams are. It surprised me that a coat at that price level coming from a supposed quality provider as Patagonia doesn’t have lining all around in a winter coat. Where I live we have cold and long winters so warmth is more important than design. I therefore returned it and went for the Marmot Montreaux coat which is warmer and seems to manage snow and rain better but doesn't look as nice. If you don’t have to be out to much in cold winter conditions this is a nice city coat for winter walks. I usually wear medium and I had plenty of room to add a warm sweater.

Great coat, does fit a little small!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This coat is really great. Not too hot for warmish weather (in the 30s) but warm enough for when it's really cold. The elastics inside the sleeves keep the wind from blowing up your arms! I find the collar feels weird against the back of my neck if I have a scarf on (it's a lot of bulk), but that unzipping the hood and just letting it hang loose fixes this. The one thing I'd tell you about this coat is that, unless you're very confident in the newer Patagonia sizing, you might want to consider sizing up. I was ALWAYS an XS in Patagonia (I'm 5'3", 110 pounds, always a size 0-2), and the XS was tight when I tried it on with a thick sweater and put a few things in the pockets. I sent it back and tried the S instead; and although the fit isn't as adorably fitted, the coat now fits over a warm sweater and can fit my phone in the pockets, so: win. Also, this coat is really cute. You can wear it fashionably in a city!

      Wonderful coat

As usual, Patagonia has the best fabric, the best features, and the best fit. Their sleeves are always a little bit longer than their competitors'; which is great for someone with a 5'9 frame. The coat is like a warm hug, and has room underneath for layers. Although the hood would be difficult to open while wearing the coat, it's design is ingenious. It covers my head, shelters my face, and stays on in wind. The ash-gray color camouflages the tiny bits of down that inevitably escape through the fabric of a down coat. This is the first "grown up coat" I have purchased in more than 20 years, and it was worth the wait. Great price at backcountry.com, too!

      Super Warm!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I bought this for my sister in law who walks 1 mile to work every day in the Montana cold weather. She was looking for a longer down jacket that would keep her warm on the really cold mornings. She absolutely loves this jacket. It is a little less boxy than other jackets she looked at, as the waist tapers in slightly and the bottom flares out every so slightly. Also, the hood/collar is a great feature. When the hood is stowed away, the collar is still a little high, making this slightly more fashionable than the average long down jacket. When it gets extra cold, the hood comes out to offer additional coverage. The jacket is also DWR finished, so she can stay dry even if a snowstorm rolls in. The jacket is true to size - she is a true medium, and that size fit her perfectly. The only small complaint I could make about this jacket is that it is definitely long. I'm 5'1" and tried on the jacket before giving it to her, and found it to be a little too long for me - almost mid-calf length. If you are super short, you may have a hard walking or getting to the zipper down by your feet.

Is this goose down or duck down?

      Unanswered Question

Is there a warmth difference between the downtown parka and down with it parka?
Do they both have a tall collar?
How do they compare to the warmth of the North face Arctic parka?
      Thanks!

What are the major differences between the Patagonia Downtown Parka and the Down With It Parka? Are the lengths the same?

      Best Answer

      Julie,

The Downtown Parka is longer than the Down With It Parka. Downtown will go to past your knees, or a little longer, depending on your height. The Down With Parka is knee length, or a little shorter if you are tall. The Also, Downtown will have a less puffy look, due to it's smaller baffling construction.

Does this hit the ankle or mid-length? I saw the same one at REI page that says it's a mid length coat but this says full length.
