    Patagucci Takes The Cake Again!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This is a great jacket for someone who is looking for simplicity and wanting the best functionality. I have a pretty long toros so finding jackets that are not to wide like most brands in the larger sizes fit, this fit really well in the sleeves and torso. The jacket is of high quality like everything by Patagonia, my wife has the the Torrentshell and has preformed really well over the last few years that she's had it. Thought I would give it a go and glad I did!. See the other reviews for justification. Get it or be drenched!

    Solid Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Very lightweight and versatile. You can use this on a rainy day, snow day, as a wind-breaker, or even on a fishing trip. The quality, per usual with Patagonia, is nothing but the best. Also, a great jacket for when you are traveling, as it is light-weight and easy to fold up

    Great RainCoat

A great rain jacket. Waterproof and breathable. Wore this hiking in NH during a few rainy hikes and was very comfortable. Also a bomb proof rain jacket for around town. The girl and I each have one.

    Love it.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Super light, weather resistant jacket. The fit is great! If it's colder I layer up and top it off with this and it works great. If it's warmer, it will keep wind and water out, but never overheat you. Thanks Patagonia! Highly recommend.

    Worth every penny.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm a recent transplant to the bay area. My preferred mode of transportation to and from work is via bike. After the first wet and raining commute, I realized bringing a change of clothes wasn't going to cut it. I actually needed some waterproof gear.

I have a Houdini jacked that didn't do too bad wicking away a light mist, but it wouldn't cut it for any real rainy days. Picked up the Torrentshell and it's been killer. Cuts the wind when I am riding and keeps me bone dry. Although I haven't used the vents in the armpits very much, they have been handy when I have needed them.

The jacket itself is a bit baggy, but I will be the first to admit I'm a wiry guy. I usually wear a small and there's room for a few warmer layers underneath if I wanted.

Overall a solid jacket and worth the price.

Awesome jacket, but not very breathable

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. He says the jacket keeps rain out but there is no mesh lining, so heat vapor from your body does not quickly release from the jacket, despite pit zips. Other than that he likes the jacket and fit. Good jacket for price.

    Fit is perfect!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 185lbs

This jacket is great. It's lightweight, stylish, and packable which is a really nice feature when on the go. The material is slightly noisy but was kind of expecting that with this level of protection. The pit zips are a great feature to release some excess heat. Overall it's a fantastic jacket. It fits well, looks really good, and unbeatable price for the quality you get.

Best Rain Jacket on the market

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 5'11"

Patagonia Torrentshell jacket is the best rain jacket on the market - durable, flattering, and does the job. Great vents under the arms if you are hiking and it gets warm, upgraded from a Sherpa Rain Jacket to this Patagonia one and was a great decision!

    Mixed bag

I ended up having to return the Patagonia Torrentshell jacket. The inside liner gave way after a couple of years of light use and it was losing its ability to shed water. It more absorbed water than anything else. Patagonia stood by their product though and replaced it.

      Perfect Rain Jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Another great piece from Patagonia. The jacket is really well made and the vents help keep me cool on muggy, humid days in the summer. The waterproofing is great and the hood is shaped perfectly to keep the rain out of your face.

      Durable and effective

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My boyfriend bought this as an upgrade from his old North Face rain jacket. He likes this one way more and uses it as a light jacket as well. It fits him nicely, and the only concern is that the zipper gets caught because of the fabric. He was also hesitant to buy it because it is a very 'loud' jacket if that makes sense, kinda crackling when you move.

      Waterproof Fly Fishing

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these as gifts for my dad and brother-in-law's fly fishing trip. We used these last weekend in Glenwood Springs where it rained the entire day. They said without these jackets, they would have been soaked through and cold and miserable. But instead, they were dry and warm and had a great fishing experience on the Colorado River. Totally waterproof!

      Handled Tons of Rain

      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 180lbs

Our first day on the water canoeing in the backcountry at Algonquin Provincial Park was very heavy rain and stormy all day. I was glad to have this Jacket. It kept the water out for the most part and the hood fit nice with my baseball cap. I would highly recommend this product!

      Gift for dad

Bought this as a gift for my dad and he loves it. He is 5'8" and 185lbs and the Large fits perfect.

      Solid Windbreaker / rain jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I went with a large on this one. The medium fit as well but was a touch tighter than I wanted the jacket to fit in the back and shoulders. The jacket isn't too wide either which is nice when sizing up so you don't get that boxy look as you can in other coats.

Is the Patagonia Torrentshell Pullover just as good, because i like the way it looks more but it doesn't have the pit zips. Do you think think the pit zips will be important?

I know this is a very late response- but I HAVE to have pit zips. I won't buy a rain shell without them! They make a huge difference to me between whether or not you end up soaked in your own sweat instead of rain :) gotta have that ventilation!

Any idea if this jacket would be appropriate for skiing? I only go really once or twice a year so I don't think I need a full-featured ski jacket, I'd rather buy one like this that can be used year-round.

I'd say no, it isn't really designed for the punishment a jacket can get from skiing. But if you aren't going into the trees, hitting up the park, or expecting to not take a few falls then this should be ok. And ok is about what you'll get, skiing shells are designed with at least a minimal liner to protect from how cold the outer shell can get, rain jackets like this aren't built that way so you WILL need a pretty good mid layer if you want to ski with this jacket.

I normally wear a large shirt. Will a large...

I normally wear a large shirt. Will a large Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket leave sufficient room to layer underneath? The sleeves which are listed as 35-36"will be about 3-4" too long. Will it be reasonably easy to have the sleeves shortened? The reviews seem to conflict -- will the jacket protect in a heavy summer rain (both from heat and downpour)?

      Hey Mike,

If it helps, typically I wear a medium t-shirt but large in long sleeves and jackets. This rain jacket is designed to be loose fitting and to hand a little long in the sleeves so that you can pull it on without stripping layers and so that it will cover everything underneath. If you normally wear size large than I would honestly suggest you stick with that size for this fantastic jacket. I don't know if I would recommend using this jacket to beat the heat but to escape a summer rain this jacket will be perfect.
