Why We Like The Ortles Couloir Boot

For tackling mixed routes and technical expeditions, the Ortles Couloir Boot is among our top picks as Salewa’s lightest boot in the line because of its completely modernized design. The carbon fiber and Kevlar® cuff on the outer boot supplies protection from rocks and crampons, while the thermo-insulated inner boot features a stretch gaiter with silicone gripping points to keep snow out, and socks dry—for days on end in unrelenting alpine conditions.

Too narrow, nice support

The ankle brace is really good but the boot is really narrow.

Too narrow, fit changed from other boots

I'm sure they are a good boot but the width changed to be narrow. I've had 5 pair of other Salewa climbing boots over the years (3 models) and all were a perfect fit. Just got these and the fit is so narrow it hurts. Even putting on a thin sock and removing the insole didn't really help. I don't think I can wear these. Probably will return them if they can't be stretched out.

Incredibly light and warm

These boots are incredible for mixed and ice climbing. They also work well for general mountaineering. Unlike the other reviewer I found the sizing perfect. The boots walk exceptionally well, better than any other boot I've ever tried, if you leave the Velcro strap at the top off. If you use the Velcro strap the boots don't walk as well. The boots climb incredibly well for ice and mixed and they're crazy light. After a few hours of using them though they do start to get a bit uncomfortable. Which raises an interesting point, I also own the Mammut Nordwand High Knit boots and those are more comfortable but don't climb as well, they still climb amazing just not as good as these. I wouldn't pay retail for these, and if they're not on sale I'd consider the Mammut boots instead of these but if these are discounted I'd probably go with these.

Sehr leicht, gute Passform, gute Sohle, wasserdicht

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
