Why We Like The Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 Wide Gore-Tex Trail Running Shoe

Protection on the trail is at a premium, so we recommend the XA Pro 3D V9 Wide GORE-TEX Trail Running Shoe from Salomon. Wide enough for bigger-footed runners, and tough enough to take on the gnarliest trails, this shoe features Salomon's Advanced 3D chassis for stability and motion control while also protecting our feet with sturdy synthetic uppers and a reinforced toe cap. That gives us a stable and durable base while the Contagrip outsole provides us reliable grip on rocks and mixed terrain. For those of us who aren't afraid of sloppy trails or colder weather, this version of the XA Pro features a GORE-TEX membrane for premium weather protection.

Awesome lacing. Not a true 2E.

I bought the V9 because I wanted a waterproof trail shoe for my true 2E feet. Because I had tried many shoes without satisfaction (Icebug and all of REI's offerings), I was willing to risk the V9 in spite of it having a quick-lacing system. After five months, this is what I have learned: ++ The Quicklace is superb! I just pull (on the handle) and tuck (into the tongue pouch). I have also not experienced the dreaded big toe pressure (where the lace crosses above the big toe) that others have reported with other quick-lacing designs. + Good balance between protection and feedback from the outer sole - Contagrip is so-so on wet wood/roots - Heel fit is modest. The sensation is of my heels pulling out a mm or two before every step. I'm used to a near-perfect fit with my other trail shoes. The V9's heel fit reminds me of the fit with hiking boots, but slightly better. I suspect that the close fit in the forefoot (see the next section) exacerbates the sensation that my heels are pulling out. -- This is not a 2E out of the box. I'd rate it a does-not-exist 1E. Even though I expect any new shoe's upper to stretch to fit, my other 2Es (Nike and New Balance) conformed more closely to my feet out of the box. I don't regret buying the V9. It certainly is the best of all the waterproof 2E shoes I tried. I just hope that it's built to be durable in terms of continuing to be waterproof and that the glued parts stay glued.

Great Disc-Golf Shoe

A lot of Disc-Golfers love Solomon shoes. Awesome! Water proof!

A great addition to my Salomon collection!

First purchase with broader fit and super comfy. Completely dry for dog walks and smart enough to wear to the office. Subtle and discreet for a pensioner with some life left!

Good shoes, good fit, poor choice of colours

If like me you have size 13 feet and need a wide fitting you will find these shoes to be as comfortable, hard wearing and protective as ever they were. Sadly they’re not widely available and you can have any colour you like as long as it’s black.

Best fit for my foot

I don't have a wide foot but so many of the other brands of performance hiking shoes I've worn are very narrow and don't offer a wide version. This V9 Wide continues the fit of the V8s that I have come to love. The 3D chassis is solid and controls my pronation with pronation control being hard to find in other brands these days. they hold up to my hard use. They also have great traction and I like the quick lacing system. These will be my forever shoes so long as upcoming V10s, V11s etc have the same fit....

Wore once. Never again.

Shoes felt fine around the house for initial testing. Took them out onto the trails and the left shoe absolutely shredded my toe about 4km in. Weeks later, my toe is still pretty mangled. Goretex was perfect. These shoes are just far too narrow and firm.

Good fit and excellent materials

This is my fifth pair of similar Salomon shoes I've had since 2008 when I bought my first pair to hike the Tiger Leaping Gorge trail in China. I like these shoes because of their fit, design, ease of use and quality materials.

Awful

Bought these for a couple day trek. I come back and they are already breaking at the seams.

“Wide” is useless

Toe box was still kinda cramped, and the arch portion of the shoe was unbearably narrow. Also, one of the shoes immediately started squeaking with every step. Return was easy though
