Why We Love Autumn

There’s lots to love about autumn. Intense colors ... pumpkin spice and apple cider … the crisp, cool air … and clothes like chunky-knit sweaters, flannel shirts, canvas jackets, and new boots. And being one step closer to winter. If that’s not enough, here are a few more reasons to love fall from some of our Backcountry friends, along with great new looks for the season.

“I'm a ‘yes’ girl who loves travel, adventure, and all things outdoors, and fall is most definitely my number one favorite season. I love fall hikes to see the changing leaves, spending any chance I get out in the crisp air, and fall trail runs. Anything that involves being up close and personal with all the color in the mountains.”

“I've spent the last four fall seasons skiing in South America, and I've found myself missing those incredible fall colors that we get here in Aspen. That being said, fall for me is all about long runs in the trees, enjoying the beautiful colors ... and when weather allows, getting up high on some of the incredible 14ers in the Elk Mountains. And for any skier, fall always brings that anticipation of the coming winter. I love it.”

"Honestly, what's not to love about fall? In Utah, the changing colors of the leaves is out of this world and it blows my mind every year, so I spend as much time as possible up in the canyons. The temperature is perfect and there are so many fun activities to do during fall as well … hiking and camping are my favorites, and I’m trying to squeeze as much of them in before the snowfall!"

“Nothing beats catching sunrise at an alpine lake when the sun hits golden aspen and shades of yellow and orange explodes in the valley. Fall’s a great time for fly fishing—it really tends to turn on as fish are prepping for winter. Trail running is another great fall activity, temps are perfect midday to get out and crush the trail. I also enjoy taking some ‘me’ time and spending some mornings alone to photograph fall color landscapes.”
