Why We Like The Maestrale RS Alpine Touring Boot

Positioned among the top-tier freeride boots in Scarpa’s line, we bust out the Maestrale RS Alpine Touring Boot for those backcountry skiing missions where we can’t accept a compromise. The walk mode is designed to function with minimal friction and offers an incredible 60-degrees of cuff rotation for efficient skinning through the approach, and up the ascent.

The 125 flex and Grilamid shell offer alpine boot-inspired descending characteristics, with both fore-and-aft and lateral stiffness that rewards hard-charging skiers. Stiff and swift is the name of the game, the RS version of the Maestrale only suffers from a 40 gram weight penalty, yet is twenty percent stiffer for those steep and deep days in the mountains.

Back country sent me used boots !

Ordered these boots, received them and come to find out they had been used and had edge scuffing on the plastic and hinge points from ski edges and were covered up with a black magic marker. After repackaging I noticed dog prints on the outside of the box for the boots. Contacted BC and they said they would give me a $20 refund if I kept the boots. Very poor customer service from BC and I am through buying from there companies.

They do run small

Size Bought:
30.0
Weight:
185

I owned 3 previous pairs of the RS all at 29.5 (2016,19,21?) and they all fit well and similarly. I was hesitant to take the descriptions recommendation that these fit small when buying into my 4th pair but sure enough, I ended up returning the 29.5s and going to a 30.0. No turns on them yet, but out of the box they feel as good and familiar as the last 3. I expect good things.

Not the Maestrale of Old

Last season I decided to upgrade my aging and well-loved Maestrale's for a new pair of RS's. The new RSs performed well for several months -- and then the liners started falling apart around the ankle. Since the boots were less than one year old and had been used for only ~30 days, I sent them back to Scarpa on a warranty claim only to be told that having the liners develop holes after less of a season of normal use didn't make them defective so Scarpa wouldn't replace them. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I expect the liners in an $850 boot to last for at least a full year. Scarpa's quality just isn't what it used to be and they won't stand behind their products. Buyer beware.

BEST BOOT EVER!

Seriously, buy it, this is the best ski boot I have ever owned. I had the Freedom RS before these for 5 years and wasn't sure I could find a boot I would like more but these are the next step and worth the upgrade. Large range of motion, easy on and off, comfy liner, grippy soles, stiff flex but can be forgiving if kept not so tight on the buckles, warm, light... the list goes on these boots are durable and perfect for any one who tours a lot but also likes to rage the resort! I don't have anything negative to say about these boots excpet that the shells tounge takes a little to get use to at first but its as easy as keeping the tongue below the buckles and your good to go!
