Flats Sneaker

Designed for stalking bonefish and tarpon in saltwater flats, the Simms Flats Sneaker is designed to give you traction and comfort throughout long days on your feet. The gum rubber outsole provides excellent grip in the water and on wet boat decks, while a removable Right Angle footbed supports and cushions your foot to reduce fatigue. The synthetic upper sheds water quickly when you find the shore, and a non-absorbent foam lining cushions your foot underneath, preventing pressure points. The Flats is made entirely from saltwater-friendly materials, but will serve you well when you travel to freshwater spots as well.

Well Designed with Two Shortcomings

Flats Sneakers are much like a light wading boot. It is a great concept for saltwater fishing both on shore and in a skiff or boat. They are well crafted and provide great support. Shortcomings include the unusually narrow width and a boat they squeak rather loudly when you fish from a standing position which spooks the fish. Outside of the two major shortcomings I would have given them five stars.

For narrow feet

I posted an earlier review of these boots and stated the same problem that others had with the soles delaminating if you left these boots to dry in the sun. The other problem that I had with these boots were the comfort. They are very narrow - like a B width. Even ordering them 2 sizes larger did not solve the comfort issue for me. Since I wear a 3E width I bought the Simms Free Salt boot which has a very wide toe box and are extremely comfortable for those of us with fat feet. They weigh almost the same and are built very rugged. I've logged over 100 days of walking the flats with these boots and highly recommend them to anyone that has a wide foot. Simms has a real winner with these boots.

Good boots ... bad soles

Comfortable and with sand guards very good boots. However as others have commented the soles delaminated from the uppers after very moderate use.

Soles fall off..........

I'm surprised by the good reviews and that they still sell these boots. For over twenty years, I have owned and operated a very popular fly fishing lodge for bonefish in the Bahamas. I have seen guests wearing countless pairs of these boots and dressed myself and my guides in them. I have thrown dozens of pairs in the trash, all with detached soles. Unless new, I have never seen a pair of these boots that the soles did not fall off. They will not last a season, they can't be repaired. By far, hands down, the lowest-quality wade boot I have ever seen. Also, they run a full size too small even with thin polyester socks. The pic below is of my third pair, all ended with the same results; shame on me. This pair I had worn no more than a week. I have one more new pair in a box, I'm afraid to get them wet.

Great Product

Fantastic. Very durable and comfortable. I am wading on flats filled with broken coral and limestone and having zero issues. I could not do this without these sneakers. You must wear neophrene socks as some sand and gravel will get in.

Excellent flats shoe

I love wearing these wading sandy hard bottoms in the flats. My go to shoe for summer wades. Very comfortable, lightweight and the shoe offers lots of ankle support! I go a size bigger and wear the neoprene wading socks with them.

Best tool for the job!

I use these in serious marl, many times mid shin deep. These boots keep me as safe as any that currently exist. Yes they get some sand in them on those days. My last pair made over a dozen ten day trips over a number of years. They won't let you down in the backcountry!

Fine Saltwater Boots with Two Issues

High quality saltwater boots with two issues for me. The overall quality is excellent. They provided great support, protection, and are well made. I was impressed by the design and build quality. The problem for me is that they run both narrow and small compared to my Simms’s G3 Wading boots which fit great. My intention was to wear them with Simms neoprene booties with gravel guards to keep sand and gravel out when fly fishing in Southwest and Northeast Florida. They run at least one half size smaller than what Simms states. I wear size 12 street shoes and bought these at size 13 as recommended by Simms. They were too tight with neoprene booties. This size worked fine with no socks. I wore them fly fishing from a fiberglass flats skiff with a guide. Big mistake. They were quite squeaky and tended to spook the fish with loud squeaks. If you intend to wear them with neoprene wading socks then Simms Freesalt Wading Boots is a better option.

Make flats sneakers for women!

Giving a 3 because they don't make flats sneakers for women. I wear a size 7 women but ordered a 7 men (the smallest) and wore neoprene socks for the Bahamas. With the socks, the sneakers were still a slightly wide and long. I had rubbing near the inside ankle but was able to wade and catch bonefish. My husband bought a pair too. It was true to size for him with wet wading socks. He gives the flats sneaker high marks.
