Sticky strap ruins lense and helmet

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is my 2nd pair of Smith I/Os. My first pair went 8 hard years before the foam started to disintegrate (IMO this is very normal and I was still a huge fan). Instantly replaced with another last year (2022 model). Off the bat something off. The lense change latch felt noticably cheaper and lense changes that had a satisfying click kinda just mushed in. But what ended up being a huge red flag was the strap. There was a sticky line of something like those sticky hand toys for kids you get out of a quarter machine. Just thought "I guess they know what they're doing" and just used it. After the first season no real issues but upon slapping it on my helmet for my 2nd season the sticky goo complete melted. The inside of the lense had a large smear and my also brand new Smith maze helmet was covered everywhere with it. Alcohol gets it off the hard shell but it's still on the ear pads and IMO is unusable. I don't think I'll be going back to Smith anymore, this was lame. Goggles were covered under warranty, helmet was not, my fault for using their goggles I guess? Shipping is not covered for warranties FYI.

Clear, crisp lenses that never

Clear, crisp lenses that never fog up or ice over. Comfortable fit that integrates nicely with my helmet. Smith stands behind their products and has a great customer service team.

The goggles completely disintegrated. Not their problem.

I bought those I/O goggles, thinking it was a premium high quality product. I have always been extra careful with is, storing it away in its sleeve. This new season, I got it out of the sleeve to find the glue of the foam had disintegrated and messed the whole screen. It's good for the trash. I contacted Smith who dismissed my claim. You know why ? In the US, it would be covered by the lifetime warranty. But because I am in Europe, a faulty product is not their concern. What a disappointment for a company that claims a premium positioning.

Over vented

The venting was such that wind whipped through the inside of the goggles making my eyes tear. Not only did this impair my vision while skiing, it also meant I had to clean "speed tears" off the inside of the lenses after every single ski day. After my first day I tried to clean the splashes off the inside of the sun lens with the supplied goggle bag, but ended up scuffing the inside of the lens. So now I own expensive Smith goggles that are scuffed and make my eyes water. And after every ski I have to wash them in warm water and mild soap to get them clean. Not super thrilled, though the goggles are comfortable and look great.

Foam Problem

The I/O model lenses are the best, but after a couple of use, the foam got ripped. What can be done in such case?

Quality has gone way down

Pretty disappointed with all of my Smith purchases this season. First I had issues with the mission helmet. Next I went to use these goggles and was shocked at how much worse they had gotten from the ones I had years ago. The lens transition has somehow gotten more challenging and feels extremely cheap. I am not able to return any of my items because I have a prodeal through NSP. I am really disappointed that smith has dropped their quality so much. I will not only be not recommending their gear, I will be actively turning potential shoppers away from their gear. You would think they want to keep workers in the industry satisfied, however it seems they have moved to making cheap gear for a high price point.

I bought these this season and couldn’t be happier, lenses are fantastic and the release system is really easy to use (of course I didn’t read the instructions) really happy with these, great buy!

I/O Reviews

I have been using the I/O since the very first generation and have several Lenses which have never let me down. Upgraded for the look of the white band this year and picked up the Chrome Pop green lens to go along with my 5 other lenses… the fit is fantastic, no fog at all. I spend the whole day with the lens in through shady and sun… I was amazed by the clarity of the lens in sunny conditions and very quick to adjust through the shade. If you haven’t tried this lens I would decide for your self. On a side note the goggles comes with a great durable case which has a slot to Carry a second lens in the soft microfibre goggle case, this is a very nice attention to detail. If there was a con to the goggles. I would like to see a Smith logo and or lettering on the white strap on both sides for style.
